"Though it takes a little while to get into the rhythm of the story, since it deals with one character's background interspersed with the main character's present story, it readily draws you into a very gripping "what'll happen next" plot. The dreary background only heightens the tension and mystery."

"This story was very stark. The hero is a villian, but you find yourself accepting his frailties and hoping that he can find redemption. His weaknesses are sometimes difficult to find compassion for but that's what gives this book depth."

"An epic adventure by Umberto Eco. This was my first foray into Eco and it was a bit daunting. The story is full of adventures and travels, and some of those purely the invention of the main character, Baudolino, so it's easy to get a bit flustered. Very imaginative and colorful."

"This is a very quick and easy read. An enjoyable if not thought-provoking book, it is still good for a rainy Sunday morning."

"A good mystery and, confined to a trans-Atlantic ship, some very good tension. Once again, the main character is troubled and not always likeable but you can relate to the tough spot he finds himself in."

"A very funny little book, though its style takes a little getting used to. Once the cadence can be established, it is a charming story. A very quick read, but it'll bring a smile to your face."

"A twist on the tale of Hansel & Gretel but set during the tragic times of WWII. It's a wrenching story of two children trying to survive against incredible odds. The story is sad, inspiring and emotional."
