First written in 1935 and reprinted 18 times, this is a warm and personal memoir about growing up in Southern Michigan in the late 1800's. Full of period detail and happy memories. (Her father does sound like a piece of work, though!)

This is a lovely, and VERY British, book of Christmas recipes. "Bashed neeps," for example. Smith helpfully explains that in the south they're known as "swedes." Hmmm.... and in the United States they're known as ... ? Many wonderful sounding things I would never try in a million years, but great fun to read about.

A very enjoyable book for Christmas-crazed people.
