This book was better than just a guilty pleasure mystery read! I liked that the main character was realistically flawed. This was the first book by Michael Connelly that I had read.

This book should be read by any aspiring writer and every high school composition class. It is not a book about writing, but one of the absolute best written memoirs I've ever read. Perry writes makes allusions to classical literature, pop culture, modern physics and other equally eclectic topics with tack-sharp wit. His voice is refreshing, his vocabulary wide-ranging, and his heart unmistakable. This books makes me want to read more of his writing, with the only trepidation that I might not like his other books as much as this one!
