"This book had the charm of being set on an island called "Abandon" and it seemed to have touches of the supernatural - both in what people did and what happened to the land itself. Fortunately, any hokey pokey was for the good of man and not evil (except for the creepy little man called Pasco). The lead heroine Morwenna was beloved by the island people for all the good that she did for everyone and they were also a little mystified of the "magic" she could perform. Morwenna's magic was more what occurred around her versus what she could conjure up herself - that was the charming part of her mischief.

Our hero Anthony Pentargon took over the island when his brother died. Anthony came to clean up his brother's estate and planned to sell the island and land to a high ranking English lord in parliament for the exchange of help in passing laws to help out the poor and indigent children of London. Morwenna and her fellow countryman would loose out if the land was sold off so, she attempted to intervene and stop the transaction. Needless to say, the hero and heroine become charmed with one another during their interactions of the sale and their relationship developed."

"In a case of mistaken identity, Amy Cole is drugged & abducted by Sir Jason Archer, who believes she's his errant wife Desiree. He chalks up the changes in her, and her insistence that she's not who he thinks she is to the fact that in the short time they were together, his wife changed dramatically, culminating in her running off with another man. He thinks it's just more of her scheming, though he's puzzled about what she thinks to gain.

Amy plays along until she can escape, and in the time together, they fall in love.

The good:
The characters. Jason in particular was understandable and his emotions were well explained. While I got frustrated with him not believing Amy, I never thought he was an idiot not to. Amy was smart, and I enjoyed her logical attempts to make Jason see reason, as opposed to the more usual full-steam-ahead emotionally driven blundering of other romance heroines.
The twists. When things are wrapped up in the end, there are some clever surprises. And there were a couple of places where the story didn't go where I expected it to, for which I'm grateful.

The bad:
There were times I thought Amy was just a little too accepting of the situation, and she was too quick to forgive in the end. It was a side effect of her logical nature, but I wanted to see a little more anger from her.
And there's a thread of her brother spying in France that didn't quite go anywhere. Of course, part of that could be that it's such a short book.

The verdict:
A fun, entertaining read with some nice surprises."

Abiding Darkness: A Novel (Anderson, John Aubrey, Black Or White Chronicles)
Review Date: 10/22/2006

"In the summer of 1945 in the small Mississippi town of Mares Point seven year old Missy Parker, her twelve year old brother Bobby, and their black friend "Junior" Washington were inseparable. They built a boat and sailed on Cat Lake not knowing that demons were residing on the bottom of the water waiting for the right time to kill Missy. They inhabit the body of snakes and attack while Missy is alone on the boat.

Junior, who came to Christ recently, saves her but before he dies from the venom, he asks his father Moses to help Missy find the Lord. She grows up a Christian and in collage dated Hull Dillworth, the leader of a Christian youth group. His outward purity hides his evil nature, making it easy for the demons to possess him. He tries to rape Missy but seminary student David Patterson stops him with the help of his guardian angel. David makes Missy promise to teach the Word to his unbeliever older brother Pat but his heart on the subject of God is closed mind. Pat wants her but resents the religion that he believes keeps them apart and only a miracle will change his mind.

Readers who love the works of Frank Peretti will want to read ABIDING DARKNESS, Book One of The Black or White chronicles as the storyline is fast paced and exciting. The unseen supernatural angels and demons who work through humans add a mythical perspective to the plot. Missy is bright, beautiful, and unyielding in her religious convictions which make her the perfect counterpoint to Pat the unbeliever. John Aubrey Anderson is a talented storyteller who has written a fine inspirational saga.

"bought this and two others in large print for someone who loves to read but finds it difficult. I was hoping that the stories would be good enough to pass on and I was pleasantly surprised with this one. "Abiding Love" is a heartwarming story of a young woman who has been burned badly and is trying desperately to make her own decisions while everyone else in the small town is determined to make them for her. She takes in two orphans and is drawn to the new saloon owner, the most hated man in town. It is a great love story that feels real and good in a world of fake "loves." It made me smile inside and out. I hope you enjoy it as well."

"In a senseless act of terrorism, Kyla loses her husband Richard the night their son is born. Distraught, she vows to honor his memory and remain in mourning.

Trevor is devastated when he discovers that the only reason that he survived the bombing is because he passed out in his best friend's bunk. While recuperating in the hospital, his personal effects are delivered, including heart-wrenching love letters that Kyla wrote to Richard while he was stationed in Egypt. With each letter, he finds himself more and more attracted to Kyla and the life that Richard was not able to return to.

Now disfigured (and wearing an eye patch as a badge of honor), former womanizer Trevor returns to the US and rather than work at his father's law firm, decides to become a building contractor, seeking out the widow he has fallen in love with. After watching from afar, he finally introduces himself, and slowly chips away at Kyla's armor. Through the letters, Trevor knows just how to get to her."

"Reviewer: Jenny J.J.I. "A New Yorker" (That Lives in Central Florida) -

Tia William did an excellent job in capturing the reader in this book. Any woman that reads a magazines will have a connection with the main character. The author's ability to bring such interesting and vibrant characters to life, will keep the readers wanting more. I have to admit the story started off slow in the first couple of pages, but after the first chapter it took off rather nicely.

The novel also touched on sensitive contemporary issues like balancing career and romance --- which is more important to today's "Independent Woman" The witty/trendy dialogue was absolutely great and painfully real -- very a la moment and the sex scenes in this book was great and not overbearing, it is just enough to feel the words on the page! I also love the flashbacks and plot twists --- the author could not have written a better ending for this book

"The Accidental Diva" is very refreshing diversion/departure from the typical Black Lit which focuses on race betrayal, baby daddies, and cheating men. Could not have wished for a better novel from her. Looking forward for more of her work."

"[...]This book is a keeper. Just imagine Meg Ryan as the heroine who is a sharp-tongued and fiery-tempered young beauty engaged in a battle of wits with Tom Hanks, the sweet-tempered and good-humored hero and you've got this comedy of love.
Lucienne met Lord Perry Wittenden when their carriages collided and her carriage was all but destroyed. She lashed out at him though the accident was through no fault of his. Later, he published a humorous account of the accident in which she was depicted as a 'shrew'. This was not to be borne! He became her avowed enemy. Naturally, at their every encounter, conflicts ensued. There was sparring and choas. Lord Perry enjoyed himself immensely by baiting the wilful, spoilt young lady. Unknowingly, he had fallen for this captivating beauty. How they both realized their feelings for each other made most interesting reading. This is one of Elizabeth Mansfield's best. I enjoyed this book thoroughly and strongly recommend it to all Regency romance lovers.Don't miss it."

"I read Heiress by Janet Dailey and I was moved. It kept me interested throughout the whole time. What was most interesting was the setting which is Houston, TX and I am very familiar with that setting. It's about these two girls that share the same father and one is illegitimate. Abbie Lawson is the legitimate one and she lives with her mother Babs. Rachel her half sister, was born on the same day as Abbie even though they had different mothers they were like Twins. Rachel has come to town to attend her father's funeral. There she finds out about the history of her father and his other family. Abbie is rich aristocrat who learns to be tame and down to earth while Rachel becomes self absorbed and in turn they switch places. Both of them fall in love with different men. They pursue their interest in horses which leads them to a devastating end."

"Former Air Force public affairs officer Robert Wilcox was given a unique opportunity to write about the combat experiences of a frontline naval squadron flying the rapidly retiring F-14 Tomcat. VF-41's time in the Tomcat was usually personified with their shootdown of two Libyan MiGs in the early '80s, but their resurgence in the later '90s earned them strong praise after their conversion to the strike fighter role.

Lots of attention is given to the turnaround that the skipper effected with his squadron after a few years of decline. The turnaround led to the squadron's tasking in the skies over Kosovo against the Serbs in 1999. The development of a new way to fight, and the need to train the newer, junior pilots into lethal warriors while dodging enemy fire takes up the majority of the book, and readers will come to know the members of the squadron well after Wilcox' treatment.

While not as crisply written as Angles of Attack (by a former A-6 attack pilot from Desert Storm, since he was the author), the book is an uncommon opportunity to get a feel for they way that the Navy operates its squadrons, and the challenges that come with added responsibility and rank. Overall, the book makes a strong case for the Navy's ability to train and mold its leaders with a new generation of challenges, while making tis subjects all too human"

"In 1997, the trail Fiona Chanceller has followed in search of her missing cousin Faith Worthington takes her to County Tyrone in Northern Ireland. The experts told her that the dagger she holds that Faith once possessed comes from that region. She quickly learns from an antique shop owner, Seamus Gogarty that the OBruiader dagger is indeed from the area. He also informs her that the dagger, which has not been seen in centuries at least in this vicinity, has a legend involving Fey people, and an enchantment allegedly activated by mystic stone circles like that of nearby Beaghmore.
Fionas search takes a twist when she soon finds herself in mid-seventeenth century Ireland where she learns that Faith is happy with her soul mate, who is a prisoner of the Roundheads. As Fiona tries to help free Miles OBruiader, she falls in love with his best friend Ian Maclaren, but can she give up the conveniences of late twentieth century life as her friend has?

ACROSS A MOONSWEPT MOOR is an exciting time travel romance. The engaging story line works because the heroine struggles with her adjustment to a less technological area and clearly misses the conveniences she is used to having. The return of Faith and Miles (stars of A DOUBLE EDGED BLADE) augments this story as their fate impacts on that of Fiona and Ian. This cleverly crafted tale that uses historical tidbits to describe the setting belongs to the lead couple, especially the cake and eat it heroine who wants her hunk and her twentieth century devices too.

"She then starts with the heroine being 7 and growing up with a passion to live life to the fullest. She blames on the "Chandler trait". In her youth she believed that what she does is right and come on! Don't we all? That's what being young is all about, you are restless, think you are always right, and if it's first love, ah! you can NEVER be wrong no matter what the signals are. Brandewyne does try to show that, but then again, you have to read between the lines. Also her being a woman-child, I mean come-on! She's just SEVENTEEN for goodness sake. She doesn't know the rights front he wrongs as she admits in the book saying that although she did so things wrong, if she was given the chance to change them, she won't for that's what made her WHO she is.

Then here's the complain about the hero; being to ruthless, coldhearted, and according to the heroine, hot-tempered. But then again, you only get the picture of what the heroine feels about the hero. Remember, she doesn't love him (yet) and if you don't love someone, will you go on praising them? NO! He might seem a bit rough when he pulls her in his "iron grip", but when is the setting taking place? In the 1840's. It was a male-dominated world. Women were there for male pleasure ONLY. But his "iron grip" justifies for itself, for he maybe hot tempered, seem dangerous with the Gypsy look, but he DID and DOES love her. If you again Read Between the Lines, you'll see and he has been loving her since he was a boy of 13 and she only 7. He's a guy, so showing his feeling for another may not be that easy as it is for girls. So, although it might seem like it, he's not a 'one-dimensional' character."

"From Publishers Weekly
A great deal of research clearly underlies this interesting but overlong historical romance. In Normandy in 1794, Adrienne de Beaufort is being threatened with rape by a local revolutionary leader. She escapes wondrously through a portrait of Isabella di Montefiore, an Italian ancestor of hers whose diaries Adrienne has read, and finds herself inhabiting Isabella's body in Renaissance Siena on the night of Isabella's marriage to Alessandro di Montefiore. The gentle Adrienne knows that Isabella was heartless; she eventually betrayed her husband and helped arrange his murder. But Adrienne falls in love with Alessandro and attempts to change history. Beaumont ( Sapphire Magic ) realistically includes even unpalatable details about the era: Adrienne arrives on the wedding night, when the couple are slated to perform the ritual loss of virginity in front of a crowd. One of Isabella's brothers lusts after her shamelessly, but Adrienne makes an odd bargain with him that they will have intercourse only after she is pregnant with Alessandro's child. Alessandro also participates in a bloody campaign with Cesare Borgia, who is astounded by Isabella's apparent ability to tell the future."
