Ray is adjusting to being a vampire. He is depressed about having to sever contact with his family and friends, and appalled at having to drink human blood. But Ray doesn't have too much time to figure things out. There has been a series of brutal murders in LA. Sita knows a vampire is responsible.
Sita and Ray are going to LA to investigate and look for the one who is creating vampires. The First Vampire, Yaksha, is supposed to be dead. Even if he survived the explosion at Sita's home, he swore a vow to God not to create any more vampires, and to destroy all other vampires. Sita has not made any more. So who is making the vampires?

A new character comes in: FBI agent Joel Gray. In charge of the murder investigation, he zeroes in on Alisa. Will she have to kill this well-meaning man if he gets to close to the truth?

This story is a better read than the first one in the series. A lot more action for one thing, a compelling enemy, and less of Sita musing on what a hottie she is. Pikes writing is a little better. Still, Pike throws in gems like "I like horny men. I feel they are true to their nature." Riiiiight.

Black Cat is one of the best manga series out there. Volume Two is fantastic. The partners of Train's former ally Creed are introduced. Creed is now a villian with an interesting plan for world domination, yet he remains obsessed with Black Cat and wants Train to join his sinister group. Creed's team members are formidable villians, each very different and very original. My favorite is the huge, Mayan-like man. He is both brawn and highly intelligent, a nice departure from cookie-cutter cartoon stereotypes. The artwork in this volume is fantastic.

Elizabeth Moon is an excellent fantasy writer. Divided Allegiance is the third and final book in The Deeds of Paksenarrion trilogy about a female soldier who ran away from home and dreams of becoming a paladin. As she rises in skill, she loses friends, she encounters strange beasts and an evil spider god. Oddly, no romance or sex for our heroine.

The second volume of the gothic Sherlock Holmes-like shoujo manga, starring the handsome Lord Cain, his beloved little sister Mary, and his equally handsome manservant Riff. In Victorian England, the wealthy Cain investigates horrific events, using his vast knowledge of, and unparalled collection of, poisons common and rare.

Volume Two is not as gripping as the first volume, but still a worthy read. I love the hints of Cain-Riff slash.

Scary, well-written, a great follow-up to Night Sins. The romance in this one is way better than the first book. Jay Brooks, a Southern crime writer falls for the district attorney prosecuting Dr. Garrett Wright, who has been arrested and stands trial for a heinous mind-torture kidnapping of a little boy. Ellen has her work cut out for her, and romance is the last thing on her mind as she and her team work with what they think is rock-solid evidence against one of the most slimy and sinister criminals out there. Something no one else seems to see.

Third volume of Land of the Blindfolded, the shoujo manga about three teens, a girl and two guys, who have gifts that enable them to see glimpses of either a person's past or future. The story in this volume is ok, but like the previous two volumes of this series, the best part is the unrelated short story. This one is called "In the Rain," and I LOVE it.

Volume Four of Wedding Peach, where Momoko and her Wedding Angels Lily (Yuri) and Daisy (Hinagiku) fight the dark powers that would eliminate and sabotage true love. We thankfully get away from Momoko and Yusuke's love-squabbling and meet one of the most interesting - and cute - manga characters ever. Takuro is the childhood friend of Hinagiku. The tomboyish Daisy has always protected and stuck up for the shy boy with glasses, but he is secretly in love with her. The demon Ignis convices Takuro to wear his ring to give Takuro dark powers so he will no longer be laughed at for being a wimp. Two nastly female demons give the Wedding Angels a run for the money. A great volume, with an extra short story about Momoko and her dead mother.
