a regency romantic comedy, not unlike pride and prejudice.
Twenty is too old to turn down good proposals, people keep telling Elizabeth. But she is far too fanciful to marry for anything but love; and there is only one man who really intrigues her-- someone she has shocked with her audacious ways.
Then her cousin, Francesca, arrives from Spain with a scheme to make matches for both of them with the beaux of their choice. But when the right beau bites the wrong bait, the real confusion begins.

When her sister summoned her to Grayson Hall a fortnight before All Hallows Eve, Lady Caroline was understandably intrigued. It seemed a ghost was stalking the corridors of this home, and Carolines wit and bravery were urgently needed. Always the most level-headed of women, she was certain the phantom was merely an earthly mischeif-maker bent on frightening her sister out of marrying into the Grayson family. And the rather suspicious reappearance of the darkly hansome Damien Grayson, Long presumed dead, supported her theory. But she soon wondered if the perils posed by spectres might be preferable to the unnerving effect this flesh and blood stranger seemed to have on her heart!

Brooding and arrogant, Damien was the family's black sheep. Why,even his very name meant demon! When he made his way back to England to find his house in an uproar and his brother betrothed to a fortune hunter, his mood was little improved. And who was this beautiful widow who suspected him of chicanery of the lowest order? He would enjoy both proving her wrong, and playing a few tricks of his own. At the All Hallow's Eve ball, he'd need no disguise to play the devil...or the rake!

This is an Edwardian Romance. I remember it as funny and entertaining.
It wasn't very romantic, but then romance was the furthest thing from Belle Barclay's mind when she agreed to a make-believe love affair with the young Earl of Orsett. Her career in the theatre was crashing to a premature end, and it was money that she needed.
Pretending to be the object of the Earl's affections seemed a simple ruse--until everything became complicated. Too complicated. Suddenly Belle found herself head-over-heels in love--with the wrong man....

Sue had two kids, one husband, a lovely home and a boring life. Sometimes, when the PTA meeting proved that a comittee is a life form with many feet and no brain, or when her husband was even more inattentive than usual, or when the realization that the kitchen would never be clean for more than two hours at a time would hit her, she just wanted to escape. To get out of her incredibly mundane world, and Live a little.
So she did.
And found that an active fantasy life can be a very dangerous thing--and very real....

People have different tastes, and I don't think the characters in this book were weak at all, but hey, everyone to there own. I liked it. This is the the back.

Stephen Huntington modestly told Miss Rosemary Wyatt that his only was that of Honorable. But Rosemary could see that this did not stop this wealthy, charming, devastatingly handsome gentleman from being the catch of the london Marriage mart.
Why then did the Honorable Mr. Huntington set about courting an untried woman like her when the ravishing Clarissa Ravenwood set her cap for him? What dark intent might lie behind Stephens dazzling smile and glowing gaze? Rosemary had good cause to fear all men-and this one above all. For she had no weapons to defend her heart against a love that well might be too good to be true.
