True story about a woman and her daughter who walked across america in 1876.Story is written from newspaper articles and accounts. A peek into what it was like being a more liberated woman in that time. Excellent book
A peek at life (and death) in Bombay. The lives of several people living in an apt. complex unfold as one of them lays dying on a stairway. A man who has lost his wife, teenage lovers, couples, and merchants. Very good
This is a great book about a woman who grew up in the early 1900's.She grows up in New York and then in Puerto Rico. Lenora is faced with the decision of being a liberated woman, following her dream of aviation or loving a man and becoming domesticated. The book is filled with so much more though ;life in Puerto Rico on a plantation, what it was like to chase a dream that many women would not do in the early 1900's. Very good novel
This is one of those books you can't put down, based on historical information of Queen Esther. The author has created a great narrative about what her life could have been like. A jewish orphan taken from her homeland because she was a virgin and trained to become a concubine . Great story
This is good book about a young girls relationship primarily with her sister which having sisters is always an interesting relationship. It also is about the girl trying to find out about what went wrong with her family and how she deals with the life she has been given.
Great for vacation reading
This is a great story about a girl who is left orphan but finds a home with an old man in a lighthouse. Through him she learns about the telling stories, life and love. This is all done by an author who always has many twists and turns to her stories. She often brings in a bit of history and nothing is as it seems. I love her writing
This is a great book of 10 short stories by Penelope Fitzgerald.Ms. Fitgeralds' books have won many awards and this is her only book of short stories. Her stories that I have read are about people in a moment of their lives. The endings are just endings. Not necessarily happy or sad,but just the end of that story
Excellent book about family loyalty. Knowing your heritage. It follows a young boy to his adulthood. his recollections of his people who were loggers, miners, drinkers, adventurers but always a family or clan.
