Activities and songs are useful and age appropriate. Only complaint is the very limited number of tunes. The songs are all written to be sung with familiar tunes and the children will get really tired of hearing 'The Farmer in the Dell' and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". Most of the songs will work with other tunes as well --- the reader will need to be more creative than the author was.

Carol Goodman is making a name for herself in the mystery/fiction/romance genre. Like all of her other books, this one takes place in a school. There are many layers of mystery among students, teachers and teachers who are former students. The story moves back and forth between present and past events. The setting, the winter season and the lure of the water contribute to the atmosphere.
