Sensuous and transporting first novel filled with the colors, tastes, and fragrances of life in seventeenth-century Iran. Really engaging and intriguing story of a woman's reality in that period - the good, the bad, and the ugly - with great relevance today. I really enjoyed it.

Not a children's book is I think the best statement one can make about this book. I heard someone say she had moved from Potter to Pottymouth...which just about sums it up. It's a decent story - starts slow and builds....to a dramatic conclusion. It's a book worth reading...just not for anyone under 16, I'd say.

Historical, steamy novel.... first 150 pages go a little slow - but then it picks up - way up - I love this book and have read it twice. Full of accurate medical and historical facts and circumstances - especially around midwifery and childbirth.

Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, a Man Who Would Cure the World
Review Date: 8/24/2009

A narrative of the life of Dr. Paul Farmer - gives insight into the man, into developing world health problems, into the global crisis in AIDS, TB, poverty - especially in Haiti and gives information about the organization "Partners in Health" which is Dr. Farmer's organization. Excellent writing - reads like a novel and full of interesting insights.

I love this book - although it is not GREAT literature - and you must suspend disbelief frequently.... it is a lovely read that keeps you on the edge of your couch and wanting more. One of her book jackets says, "Lots of action, lots of sex..." and this is right - but done right - it's a fun read - I love this series.
