This book was turned into a Lifetime movie years ago but haven't seen it in a while. The book is based upon a man and his three children who are stranded on the Alaskan coast/wilderness after their sailboat sinks. They must survive for a month on sheer will and tough decisions. The book is a gut wrenching true story written by the man who survived it.

The Boys of Winter : The Untold Story of a Coach, a Dream, and the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team
Review Date: 4/28/2009
Helpful Score: 2

This is a great look at the Olympic Hockey team of 1980. The past and futures of the players are intertwined with commentary of the game. Includes comments from Russian players and their observations that day. Great for those interested in learning about what the players are doing now and how they got to be where they were in Feb. 1980. Fantastic read!

Very Funny! Only a short time left to "survive" but worth it for the laughs.

Great ending, but lots of loose ends still. Don't forget to check the back of the book. There is an additional chapter (14) that you could miss if you are not paying attention.

This is a very moving book and as a new mother I appreciated all that this mother had to do to keep her children alive. I can't even imagine the hardships. The book is a relatively quick and easy read. I would have like to have seen it developed more. Its told through the eyes of one of the children ( now much older ) so some stories are vague. A must read about a forgotten part of history.

Love it! Sophie Kinsella really knows how to write a comedic book. Great flow and really holds your interest. I love her Rebecca Bloomwood/Brandon character and she leaves us knowing there will be more to come. The only sad thing about this book is that it ended!

This book is great. Be prepared that it will not follow your idea of "Oz" with respect to the movie. There are definate "religious" and political undertones. However it will capture your imagination and you won't be able to put it down.
