I love all Macomber's books. Especially her Christmas ones. This is a great Holiday read that will make you stop and think about what's important and what you should let go.

I actually liked this book a lot. I wasn't sure I was going to in the beginning. While I'm not a fan of the actress who wrote it (though she didn't write it alone) I did enjoy the book. The only thing I found annoying was the end seemed a little rushed and left you hanging on a couple of things (which I assume will be continued in the next book). I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. A good first effort. Worth the read. However, if you are a cozy fan who doesn't like the F word you may have a hard time getting through this book as it appears frequently.

FROM THE BACK COVER: She's bold. She's beautiful. And she's about to go to jail for murder...

Soap opera actress Alexis Peterson has starred in the nation's top soap opera for almost 20 years. But her career takes a nose-dive when Marcy Blanchard is hired as the head writer. Little did Alexis realize that Marcy's been holding a grudge all these yearsand is ready to take her revenge.

So when Marcy turns up dead, bludgeoned to death with her Emmy®, no one is surprised that Alexis is the prime suspect. No one except Alexis, that is, who knows she has to take matters into her own hands if she wants to avoid being arrested for a crime she didn't commitand becoming the real killer's next victim...

I did like this book but I was slightly disappointed in this installment of the series. I have read all of the previous Haunted Bookshop Mysteries by this author and loved them. This one however was only a "like" for me.

Jack is not as present is this book. He is the reason for the series to me and his diminished presence was very much felt. While he does appear, it is not nearly as often or as bold as this reader would have liked.

Also, Ms. Kimberly has thrown in a lot of stuff near the last 1/4 of this book that is much more on the "paranormal" side than just simply the ghosty side. For those who are learly of things such as Ouija boards, pentagrams, mediums, seances, and such you may squirm a bit in some parts of the story (mostly near the end). It didn't bother me since it fit in the context of the story, but I know some folks don't like the mere mention of those things. A few loose ends were left dangling to me but I'll leave that to you all to decide if I just missed something.

Overall it is a good read and worth it. I look forward to the next book in the series. I love Jack and Pen, as well as all the other wonderful characters in the series. Alice Kimberly is a great writer and The Haunted Bookshop is a wonderful series. Hopefully the series will go on for many more books and remain strong!

I gave this book about 60 pages or so. By the time I was on page 51 I had decided I didn't care who did what to who or why.

Not really a cozy in my opinion. I love a good paranormal cozy but this was just not it. When the son got possessed by something I was pretty much done. I had all of these books on my wishlist but after reading the first part of this one I deleted all of them.

This is probably my favorite Macomber book. I've never met a Macomber book I didn't like either. Some are better than others but to me this is Debbie Macomber at her best.
