So Oprah had a hissy fit over this book. So people were put off because of some alleged fictionalization of this story. Regardless, it is excellent reading, and the author either has done a tremendous amount of research into addiction and recovery, or experienced addiction and recovery to tell this chilling story. In all reality, when one tells their side of a story, who isn't tempted to expound upon the truth a bit? Embellishment makes for good story telling. The only difficulty I had with the story is that an addict as severe as Frey could gain and maintain sobriety in as short a time as six weeks.

Being the wife to an addict and alcoholic(10 years sober) I really enjoyed the book. I felt like it was something I needed to read. A great insite to what getting clean "feels like".
Fiction or non-fiction, it doesn't really metter, it's still a great story.

This book isn't at all what Oprah claimed it to be....I never finished it. It is just garbage. He just uses this book as a platform to have an excuse to use expletives repeatedly and be completely a fool. You can tell it isn't a memoir....it is just overly exaggerated....overly everything. I work with at-risk, drug/alcoholic people. None of which are over the top like Mr. Frey.

An amazing novel. I wasn't interested in it until after the hype about the story being partially fiction. Even with that in mind, this book was excellent; one of the few life-changing novels I've read in my life.
Frey's writing makes him one of your family members or a close friend. You want him to succeed in sobering up and you hurt when he hurts.
Truly beautiful and incredibly sad, this novel will haunt you for a long time after you've read it.

A really good book, even though all the stuff came out later on the Oprah show ,about it also being a little bit of fiction as well as a memoir of addiction, it was still a really good book. I really couldn't have cared less if it was real or fiction...it was a riveting realistic portrayal of addiction.

To be honest, I didn't finish this book. I got about halfway through and quit reading it. I found the style of writing to be very annoying, and the story was not the least bit captivating for me. I don't get what all the hype about this book was.

I could not finish this book. If I thought that the whole thing was completely true, it might have been a little more tolerable. However, it just isn't well written enough for fiction.

This book took quite a while to suffer through. The repetition used for effect got old, pretty fast, and while a few parts of the book towards the middle and end are underline worthy (literary lines of brilliance), the book on the whole fails to inspire the reader, or leave them with a feeling of importance ("now that was a story worth telling!")...I felt as though I'd wasted half my week trying to sit through this novel. The fact that it's mostly false doesn't help either. The lack of style in writing can't make this story stand on it's own as a fictional piece of work. I can excuse stories that are embellished, but only if they're good books in the end.
Also, I've read stories of addiction before, and I know recovering addicts...James seems a bit too compliant with the clinic at first. In the first couple weeks his character is already talking about this rehab being a good thing. Addicts are reluctant. It's just fact. They want their drugs--- they need them, and they'll do anything to get out of clinic.

Ok, I'll be honest. On one hand, James Frey has an interesting writing style, and he probably COULD write a good story. The problem is that when I read it, I couldn't believe that ANYONE ever bought any part of the story. Anyone who has any experience with any kind of rehab or rehab facility will know instantly that Frey's work is purely fiction. I have been a counselor, and no counselor, particulary one at "the famous rehab facility in Minnesota (I'm thinking Hazelden)" with the highest success rate of any facility, would bend to a patient's wishes and attitude the way Frey's did. I mean, geez, they helped him break one of the most important rules of the facility? I don't think so. He said he could do it without the twelve steps, and they agreed? That just doesn't happen. I also had a lot of trouble accepting his accounts of his medical trials - even alcoholics and addicts are allowed novacaine, for heaven's sake. They are not allowed ADDICTIVE drugs. In the end, I disliked not only the book, but also the author.

I read this years before Oprah found it, Yes I win!!!!!!!!! I thought it was frankly the worst book that I have ever read. It goes on and on, you care nothign for the narrator the book is real hard to swallow i.e. he gets like 6 root canals w/o meds, he kills a cop? ruins his teacher creadit report for life after she gives him a bad grade etc. I could go on. Don't read this, although in hindsight, now that it is proven fake, it may be quite funny.

While it' pretty clear that a lot of what this guy describes in the book never happened (dental surgery without anesthesia? PuhLEEZ!), still there's some of the most descriptive writing I've evr read. Damn fine writing in it at times.
Other times you just want to guy ol' Jim an "attitude adjustment" because he is clearly a sociopath and a narcissist, if what he describes in interactions with others is true. With his attitude, there's no way he's going to stay clean and sober for long.
Still, I think the book is well written and made me feel his pain (if he had any)!

This is the book about treatment for drug addiction which became controversial because Oprah picked it for her book club and then it was later revealed that the author had misrepresented that he experienced everything as written in the book. This is a shame because it is a very well written book--the author's power of description is very good. He should have just said that it was a work of fiction based loosely on his own experience with drug addition and treatment and there wouldn't have been a controversy. His mistake, I believe, was in representing it as autobiographical.

Unfortunately for James Frey, he portrayed this story as a autobiography. Regardless of whether the story is an autobiography or fiction based on his life, it is a great read. The story goes quickly. I enjoyed James style of story telling, using short to the point sentences. The story is great and the characters are well developed. Forgive him for lying and read the book as a fictional story. You'll still enjoy it.

Loved it - but later found out that it's not quite as true as it was purported to be. I might not have liked it quite as much had I known that a substantial portion of it was fiction. Had it been a true story, it would have been much more compelling.

Despite the contraversy (that a few details were changed for dramatic effect) the book is very good. It's interesting & I think it gives a good insight into drug rehab. It reads like a journal and a novel, but is all rooted in his experiences recovering from multiple substances.

I was really looking forward to reading this book, but I felt that it fell short of my expectations. I was unable to connect with the character and was frustrated with the looming yet lacking climax. I didn't actually finish the book because of this. Maybe you will have better luck!! Oprah obviously loved it (haha).

Ugh, There may be a wonderful message in this book, but I couldn't make it through the first chapter. I had no need to read about the color and viscosity of his vomit, etc....... I hope someone else can appreciate this book!

I could not finish reading this. I didn't care whether or not it was true. The way it was written was BORING! Being born into a family of people addicted to various drugs and alchol; this book is just NOT anywhere near any addict I have EVER encountered. Can't wait to get rid of this book!!

It took me a while to get into this book. It is very very very graphic, and is hard to feel what he is feeling if you cannot relate to the character. I enjoyed the book, but a little bit overwhelming for me

I read it because I wanted to see what the hoopla was about it being fabricated. I find it extremely hard to believe someone read it and felt it was all factual as there are several bits that are easy to pick out as being colorful exaggeration. I think it makes it a better story to show how messed up the head can be of an addict and why it is such a dangerous disease that plagues so many. I thought it was a very good read.

I don't care that part of this book was enhanced or fabricated -- call it poetic's license. This memoir is touching, raw, real. It's written in a way that gets under your skin and allows the reader to feel more from the text. I'm excited to read Frey's other book after reading this one.

Good book. Quick read. I don't know what all the controvesry was about. Strange format of the writing. No paragraphs, nothing indented, no quotation marks. Makes it a little difficult to figure out who is speaking.

At first I was turned off by this book's small print and lack of standard formatting and punctuation. After the first dozen or so pages, I got past it and fell into the story. Websites like TheSmokingGun claim that James Frey snowed readers (even Oprah), but I would argue that if you read it for the content and can take anything away, then it is enthralling and even potentially helpful if you struggle with any type of addiction. It is certainly worth a read.

I didn't believe a word of it. I thought the author seemed more interested in cultivating a "tough guy" image for himself than in telling a story that rang true, which is why he needed to fabricate so much of it.

I think if you approach this book like it is fiction, it is easier to read. Wel later learned it is at least in part "fiction" - some of the crazy stuff that happened to the author leaves you to think either 1. it's plain unbelieveable, or 2. he was too high to have remembered things so detailed.

This is fiction at it finest. I can not imagine even before the scandal, that professional and those who have been in rehab did not call Mr. Frey to task for this book on fansty.
What was Oprah thinking?!?!
I had a really hard time with the writting style and just the story line in general, not to mention the belivablity of subject.
However, I will grant, not everyone what wittness a rehab center or known a addict, or those who working in the helping fields. So I cut some slack there.
However the hardest part for me to read was him getting his teeth fixed w/o a local. That would NEVER happen.
Also him throwing up every day and not getting medical help about it, nope, that would not happen either, esp if there was blood. That is a dangerous medical conditon.
I have yet to know anyone who can throw up their stomach and live either, even chunks of it, as he claims in his book.

Don't bother if you have any medical background. The beginning of the book is so fraught with inaccuracies and things that couldn't possily be true that I had to put it down. And that was before the controversy was exposed about how much of the book was fiction I would have expected better research from a fiction writer.

When http://www.thesmokinggun.com reported that this "memoir" is more fiction than fact, I thought Frey was a tool. But after reading this book I have to say the man can tell a story and I like his voice.
There are no quotemarks and no paragraph indents, which takes some getting used to. The thing that bugs me, though, is the capitalization. His style is that all people (except man, woman & friend) & places (plus some words relating to treatment) are capitalized, but it's inconsistent, which really slows my eye.

I liked it a lot. A tough read (in the feelings-tough, not as literature) BUT Anyone who has dealt directly or indirectly with addiction will learn from it.
And about the "controversy": No where in the book does he say "This is the truth and nothing but the truth". All biographies are embellished, especially auto biographies, so what?

When I first read this book I was in total love with Frey's harrowing descriptions of addiction and its impact on his life at such an early age. I loved his use of language and omission of punctuation and felt he had truly broken new ground in the literary memoir category. However, it has now come out that much of the "facts" of the book are not really true and that Frey himself is somewhat of a jerk. But whatever you believe it is well worth a look.

A unique memoir. Although I have read that some are trying to discredit some parts of it, I do not believe that the small part in dispute takes anything away from the meat of the message or his story.
Although I do not think many people of the 12-step persuasion would think too much of his unorthodox philosophy, I found it to be refreshingly "in-your-face" toward those who play the blame game so easily for the mistakes they've made.

There is not much else I can say about this one. I did not think I would like it, so I waited a long time to read it. Turns out, I was captivated. Yes, the language is course. So is the subject matter. Even if parts are fabricated, it is still an excellent book. (Do not read the epilogue if you plan to read My Friend Leonard. It gives away the story.)

I got this while my husband was in rehab for alcoholism and helped me tremendously.
It is not written in a usual style, it's raw and it's emotional and you cry and you laugh and more importantly you cheer him on ... I highly recommend this book.

This book was great. It's common that "true stories"- in books and movies alike-- are BASED on true stories, not every single word is fact. Who cares if he embellished a bit, it's still a great book, and it's still based on his experiences. I read this when I was still early in my recovery from drugs and alcohol, and the book helped me alot. It wasn't far fetched at all. Maybe his situations weren't as extreme as he said they were, but they were for somebody out there. And maybe they were more extreme for him when he lived them than they would be in retrospect. Who doesn't embellish stories as they tell them? Everyone has, so give the guy some slack.
And to whoever said that they work with at rish drug/alchol abusers and they are not over the top like James was-- Drug addicts and alcoholics are all drama, and completely over the top. Otherwise it wouldn't be such an issue. I can't imagine who you actually work with.
Nothing personal, just saying.

I seen all the hype going on about this book after I read it and honestly it doesn't matter to me if parts of the book ended up being false and incorrect. The book captivated me and sucked me in with everything it had to the point that I couldn't put it down.

I think this book gives the reader a personal experience of having a relationship with an addict. They lie. They make you believe them and feel for them and then you find out they manipulated you. I not certain of any claim in this book except for the one that Mr. Frey is an addict. Clearly his recovery, if he had one from actual drugs and alcohol, did not cure him of his adictive behavior. That said, the experience of reading this book before learning that it wasn't true and then discovering the facts is exactly the experience of caring for an addict. For that experience alone it is worth reading, especially if you can let yourself believe him still and then imagine discovering the fraud. I'm not sure it is worth the read as fiction.

I really enjoyed this book and read it within a day or two. Definately some disturbing issues but really gives insight to those afflicted with chemical dependencies. I actually picked this book up in a book store with the intention to read the first page but ended up reading the first whole chapter in the book store it was so captivating.

A gritty revealing picture of addiction and its mental and physical cost to the addict and those around him. If you know an addict - or a recovered one (as I do), this book is a revelation of the depths to which a person can sink and will give you a sliver of hope for recovery. If you haven't been there, this book might help you understand. Scarey stuff.

Considering James Frey did not go through that experience, he did an excellent job of writing about it. It was first tried to be published as fiction, but it was turned down. Only when submitted as non-fiction was it published. Instead of making a big deal that many details were false, why can't we look at ourselves and question why it didn't make it as fiction.

The story of a man trying to climb his way out from rock bottom. It was ok. It seems to be a fairly true account of a person going through rehab, but the fact that so much of it is made up really spoiled it for me.

Frey's first-hand account (whether it's true or not) takes you into the disturbing life of an addict. You see the rage and torment that he suffered because of his severe addictions and are with him on his difficult journey back to a sober world.

This is a terrifying novel about drug and alcohol addiction and rehabilitation. Anyone who has been or is in rehab for anything should be required to read this book. Anyone who has family members in rehab should read this book. Basically, everyone over the age of 14 should have to read this book.
It depicts the horrible tragedy of addiction and how Mr. Frey overcomes it. He knows that he has an addiction problem when he wakes up on a plane not knowing how he got there, where the plane is going, or how he got a broken nose and a hole through his cheek. When the plane lands, he gets off the plane and has his parents drive him to rehab, where he receives detoxification and learns how to control his drinking and drug addictions.
The book is his journey through rehab and how be becomes a better person. There is a lot of vulgarity and things that seem inappropriate but are a must for the story. The language is probably how everyone talked and the extreme drug situations are really what he went through.
There has been a lot of controversy over this book because there are parts that are "embellished" and altered. If you can see though all of that, then this book is truly amazing. I wouldn't suggest reading this book if you are under the age of fourteen due the language and theme of the book. You also might not want to read A MILLION LITTLE PIECES if you have a faint heart or easily get sick to your stomach because there are some extremely graphic scenes in the book. This is one I highly recommend, though.

After "trying" to read this & not having a very good time, I saw the author on Oprah - after it was revealed that most of the book was made up. I don't have much respect for someone like this, especially when dealing with such a serious subject matter.

I read this book after the whole Oprah fiasco simply because family members recommeded it as an exceptional story of drug addiction. The electrifying opening of James Frey's debut memoir, A Million Little Pieces, smash-cuts to the then 23-year-old author on a Chicago-bound plane "covered with a colorful mixture of spit, snot, urine, vomit and blood." Wanted by authorities in three states, without ID or any money, his face mangled and missing four front teeth, Frey is on a steep descent from a dark marathon of drug abuse. I couldn't put this book down, but the revelation that this was NOT a memoir as advertised, but instead more of a novel tempered some of the scenes. However, this slight deception didn't take away from the readability and excellent way it draws the reader into the experience of a drug/alcohol rehab center.

What can I say about this book that hasn't already been said? In spite of Frey's fabrications, I still was glad to read it. If even half of the picture he painted was true, the book gives an in-depth, highly disturbing look at the life of an addict.

I went into this book knowing that it was a nonfiction memoir filled with fabrications and falsehoods... but I read it as if it were real, and I cried with full of emotion moments and I felt for all of the characters and I felt it did exactly what it books are supposed to do - touch people.

Oh, please. I can't even believe that this book is listed in the nonfiction section. I wouldn't even have finished it except for the fact that I can't not finish a book, no matter how bad it is. But who knows? Maybe you'll like it better! :)

I found this book very interesting..very intense and emotional.
I did not care for the bad language or some of the descriptive and grafic details, but I had to keep reading anyway.
This book gives the reader some insight on how terrible addictions of any kind are to those who suffer from them.

I think knowing the falsification of the facts ruined the experience of reading this book for me. Initially, before I knew the full detail of the fabrications it seemed a very powerful and stunningly graphic memoir. However, knowing that it is fiction makes it what it really is . . . a rather poorly written and unnecessarily gross recounting of events that never took place

The writing in this novel is rather hard to get through. The structure is annoying to read and there are many words repeated for seemingly no reason.

Despite all the controversy, I enjoyed the book. My major complaint is that the author's rhythm goes from a spoken word poetry sound to an abruptly different narrative throughout. So there are parts that flow with that spoken word feeling and there are parts where the flow matches a typical novel, but the switching between the two forced me to read at a much slower pace. I don't know if this will even make sense to anyone, but that's the only way I can describe it. :) Overall, I thought it was a very interesting read.

I will always be a fan of James frey. I think he is a truly gifted writer and I enjoyed bothe of his books enormously. I think the whole Oprah debacle was uncalled for and slightly ridiculous. Memoir or part fiction did not make a difference to me personally. The books were worth every penny I paid for them and they are extremely well written.

If you want to read a fiction book this one will do you. I couldn't finish the book knowing there were so many lies and many of them were quite obvious. A root canal without anesthesia due to his addiction? Yeah right.

Interesting read. I found it easy to forgive the author for his dishonesty regarding the memoir after reading the insert. The fabrication increases the impact of the story and clarifies the message that he wanted sent.

I liked this book a lot. It seemed really honest. I liked how the conversations seemed straight forward and the reader isn't bothered with the he said/she said crap. Though this author apparently made most of it up, I decided not to read the article because I liked how the book appeared after I read it, and wanted to preserve that particular memory. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, though I did cry like Oprah and her crew, it was a touching book.

I know there is a lot of "hub-ub" going on about this book, and whether or not the author lied or embellished the truth in it or not...but I don't care--truth or not---it is a GOOD book. A very easy one to read, and thought provoking.......I loved it..but don't take my word for it.....read it yourself and you decide :-).

A great read. Don't be discouraged by the "fiction/non-fiction" hype. It's a great story of addiction and recovery whether the story was embellished or not. I feel that anyone who reads this book can take something from the experience (true or not) and grow from it.

I was horribly disappointed at the lie of this book. I think having gone into the book, knowing it was fiction....I would have enjoyed it a lot more, (perhaps not as much knowing the whole book was not true)....addiction, in my opinion is a huge problem in this country....so to take it lightly, make money off of a book really frustrated me.
At any rate, it was well written, graphic and raw.

This book was about a man who nearly died from using drugs. He was admitted to a rehab home in which he went through griming days of withdrawal. The language is foul but if you can deal with that, you would like this book. It is very realistic based on the rehab days of this man and the trials and tribulations. It depicts his life after he became clean. He appeared on the Oprah show. It is fairly fast=reading.

Oprah took a big leap of faith putting hetr name on this book. I could not make it past page 176. I did not like the way the book was written and I thought the context was redundant. Although I am curious to know what made him turn his life around, I can't seem to make myself finish.

Wonderful book about a man's stuggle with substance abuse and the demons involved with that struggle. His story of how he got there and how he got out, and the friends and aquaintences he met along the way. A wonderful read. You're so involved with his story that you don't want to put the book down.

As a recovering crack cocaine and alcoholic myself this book was very inspiring to me. This is the true struggle of an addict on the road to recovery. It is so much more than "will power." There is no such thing as will-power for the addict's brain (any drug counselor and addict will tell you that). It made me realize there are others out there with the same struggles. Our lives may be vastly different but the recovery process is the same for most addicts. We hear the same evil voices in our heads telling us "It's ok, do some more drugs, have another drink." "One more won't hurt." "It's fun." "You can always stop." "You need me." This book is a must read.

This book is about a 23-old-man that is told if he does not stop using drugs and alcohol, he will be dead, that he will not live another year. He goes to live in a rehab center, and details his struggles with his body, thoughts and philosophy. At first, he vomits a lot, and the physical state of his body is not a pretty picture. But gradually, he changes, he forgives parents, falls in love with another person at the clinic, and takes responsibility for his actions. It is a graphic picture of the inner workings of a rehab center. According to the back of the book, it is a true story. I was suprised by the statistic that only 17% of addicts do not relapse, and begin to use again.

I didn't love this but I found myself routing for James to get better. I was actually touched at some of the raw honest moments with his parents. However, under normal circumstances, not a book I would read. The contraversy over the book is what swayed me to read it.

The book was incredible granted I never struggled with addiction like the Author did. I do remember vividly the line 'warm peppermint honey' in my days of crack smoking the flavor/smell to this day I can smell it a mile away and it makes me smile. No not because of the drug itself for I never had any real addiction to it but because a book made me identify what I was trying to find for myself.
It was a great book I don't care if there was controversy over it. Amazing. The struggle an addict of any kind will, and has went through!

I loved this book. It was one of the most engrossing books I've ever read. I avoided reading it for so many years because of the Oprah scandal, where it was uncovered that a lot of "facts" in this book are untrue. However, I am glad I finally took the time to go back and read it. Who cares if it's real, it's an awesome book about overcoming addiction and a great story! However, I must caution you: if you are offended by profanity (especially the "F" word) or gory details about bodily functions, this is not the book for you! There was also a scene about rape that was very disturbing.

This is the best book I have ever read, hands down. Frey ropes you in with his words and descriptions of his time in rehab. You can feel the emotions he was dealing with throughout the entire story. You will be laughing, crying, fighting for him til the end.

A real conversational piece! You almost feel the charachter's pain caused by his mistakes and regrets and decisions. Even if you have never had a drug addiction (as I have not) you will find your heart aching for him. This book is crammed with such intense chapters and unbelievable life experiences. A great book, I highly recommened if you want a change of pace. It will make you appreciate what you have in life!

Yeah he made it up but who cares! If it is a good book that is all that should matter. It is about addiction and sobriety. I imagine most biographies are a little fiction! I say read the book and make your own oppinion of it! Enjoy. Another biography that my have a little fiction, called Tweak by Nic Sheff. I think these are both very similar. Some find this story hard to read though. Read it then post what you think of the book! You may just change someones mind!

I was spellbound by this book and rooted for him all the way. Then I found out that the book was in fact a work of fiction and not a life story as I first believed. Fortunately I had finished it and felt only mildly let down. It is still a good read and I believe I would have enjoyed it nearly as much had I known the truth all along. Shame on Frey.

I read this book, I thought it was wonderful, I ran right out and bought the Sequel THE VERY SAME DAY, USA today had a front page article that this story was all a lie. I would have read it and loved it if it had NOT been called a memoir. I do not know why he felt compelled to be misleading. I tried to look past all the drama and read the sequel I had purchased, but was unable to finish it. It felt dirty, fake and I was really irritated.

"Forget the negative connotations connected to this book. None of that matters. This really is the best book I have ever read.
Frey's use of gut retching imagery and his unique writing style gets the reader totally immersed in this book, feeling as though they are really involved in the narrative, and Frey's character development really leaves the readers feeling as if they know these people personally.
I have never been more entertained and drawn into a book in my life. I do not care if a few details are fabricated or if the entire book is a lie, this is the best piece of modern literature out there."

A harrowing tale of addiction and treatment, alternately horrifying, encouraging, heartbreaking and inspiring. Frey got rapped for taking liberties with his memory of the events of his life but who cares, this could be a novel and still be a very worthwhile read. I highly recommend it.

This book is very graphic about the aspects of overcoming addiction. It is well worth your time to read, but just make sure you can handle the details. When I got this book I didn't realize that is was so controversial. Eight days after being listed as an Oprah's Book Club book, it was uncovered that some of the material is fabricated, though much of the essential details are the same. I think Oprah may have been too hard on Frey, but I guess it is helping the novel to sell....

This book turned a page in my personal history, and I recommend it as a read if going into the field of therapy or if you're stuck with a substance problem..really this book can be read anytime, but its written true and close to the heart and experience of the drama that surrounds kicking a habit.

I read this a few months before the scandal broke. I hardly agree with the author that the embellishments were minor. I do see why Oprah chose it - it is a very motivating piece about how one man reclaimed his life from his destructive habits - empowering for anyone who struggles with any sort of addition or destructive cycle. Also written in a very unique style. Given what we know now, I feel it does diminish the power of the book to some extent, but still worthwhile.

When I read this book, I did not know that parts of it were not true. Even still, it has wonderful life lessons in it. It should also be noted that this man was most definitely an alcoholic, a drug addict and a criminal and he was able to recover on his own terms.

Mary S. (An interesting book. Not sure what all the contraversy was about. Whether James Frey experienced all, any or a portion of what he documented seemed irrelevant to me. I think the true attraction of the account was its openness. It's not a shy sharing of information, nor is it particularly shocking. But, it was a good-enough read, the characters held my interest and the antagonist/protagonist (yes, they seem to be one in the same) revealed himself to an appropriate degree without seeming terribly self-serving. Definitely worth reading for yourself to form an educated opinion about its merits. There are also a few devices used (capitalization of certain words) which was intriguing...I couldn't quite crack the code on that, but it added to my interest level.

I can understand artistic license, but on some of these scenes, I couldn't believe he didn't insert a dun-dun-DUN somewhere. And the character James portrays himself as is oddly unrealistic as well: from callous and unfeeling one minute, to a big ball of sensitivity the next without even blinking. To be quite frank, there were moments /I/ couldn't stand his teenage-rebellion style refusal to follow anyone's rules or advice. But of course, unfailingly, something happens immediately afterward to portray him as a saintly hero.
Don't get me wrong. I appreciate the author's plight against his addiction, and his desire to share it with others. What I don't appreciate, is the soap-opera he turned his memoir into and the rediculous turns it takes from reality.
I just can't get into this book especially knowing that the author embellished on so many levels. I feel the publisher handled the controversy well, but I still don't have the interest to complete it. I've had it sitting on my bookshelf a very long time, and finally decided to read it or post, and I believe this is the first time I have not finished a book. Waste of my time!
This isn't even a very good fake...I'm amazed that so many people were sucked in by Frey's farce.
The only reason to read this book is because you're curious about the controversy surrounding it.
