If only neighbors would have checked out the scream they heard on this night, would Karen Gregory still be alive. Was it someone who knew her or a stranger in the night!

One of the nicest things about this book is its understatement: it's very level-headed...

French chose a crime that, on the face of it, might not leap out...it hardly seems sensational ... & that's French's achievement in "Unanswered Cries." He makes you care about the victim, the crime, the do-nothing neighbors &--yes--even about the murderer.

French does a particularly good job of illuminating the victim & her friends & family without overdoing it. Murderers' actions have consequences far beyond the death of their victim...& French documents that very well." amazon review

Very good book. It's so sad that not one person called the police.

This book is riveting. A true story of a woman's brutal death and a question arises? Why did an entire block here her last scream & no one , not one person, called the police , not even anonymously. It makes us rethink our morals. Would you call the police if you heard a blood curdling scream in your neighborhood? How good of a neighbor our we? Who lives across the street from you? Do you really, really know that person? Or do you just think you do? 5 stars on this one.

On a warm Florida evening, Karen Gregory saw a familiear face at her door. What the beautiful young woman could not know was that she was staring into the eyes of her killer, a savage monster who would rape, stab and leave her battered body on the floor outside the bedroom.
Detectives frantically sifting through the evidence were tormented by one disturbing question after another. Why was the house so orderly, when it had been the scene of a frenzied struggle?

Police detective Larry Tosi stayed up nights watching the video of the grisly crime scene, looking for that one telltale clue, until slowly and with growing horror he realized that the maniac he was hunting was someone he knew...someone he called a fried.
