The Dark-Hunters are exteremely powerful and are required to live by the Dark-Hunter code: Harm no human, Drink no blood, Never fall in love. When a Dark-Hunter defies this code, the Alexion is sent out to bring the Dark-Hunters back into line. The Alexion has the power to kill Dark-Hunters. The Dark-Hunters are stirred up because several of them have regained their souls (in the previous books) and achieved new happiness - the ones who are left behind are grumbling - and the Spathi-Daimons are taking advantage of this to stir them up to open revolt against Acheron. Acheron sends out the Alexion to quell the rebellion. But, since this is a romance novel - the Alexion falls in love with a Dark-Hunteress named Danger. I like the way that each Dark-Hunter novel reveals a little more about the Dark-Hunter world, and Acheron. I would definitely recommend reading them in order.

A Dark-Hunter Novel. As powerful as they are, what happens when DH's are judged to have irrevocably crossed the line? The Alexion is sent. A one-of-a-kind being, he himself describes himself as "other". Sent to the realm of humans, he is to stop those who are breaking the first two rules...harm no human, drink no blood. Danger, a Dark-Hunter, died through the betrayal of her husband during the French Revolution. She has not really trusted any man since. Forced to play hostess to the Alexion and knowing he is there to be judge, jury and probably executioner of some of her DH friends, she has no reason to give either her trust or her cooperation to him. But she is the key to Alexion saving some of her friends. Now will the Alexion break the third rule of the Dark-Hunters....Never fall in love? If you are a devotee of this series, each book provides more clues as to what Acheron really is. Same for this one.

If you Like Sherrilyn Kenyon, you'll love this book! Very good book!!
From back Cover:
In the realm of the Dark-Hunters, there is a code of honor that even immortal bad boys must follow: Harm no Human. Drink no blood. Never fall in love. But every now and again, a Dark-Hunter thinks himself above the code. That's when I'm summoned. Who am I? I'm the one thing the fearless fear. Step over the line and it's my wrath you will face. Nothing can touch me. Nothing can sway me. I am relentless and unfeeling. Or so I thought until I met a female Dark-Hunter who goes by the name of Danger-It's not just her name, it's how she lives her life. She doesn't trust me at all. And who could blame her? She alone knows that I'm here to be judge, jury, and most likely, executioner of her friends. Yet she is my key to saving some of them. Without her, they will all die. Dangereuse St. Richard is a deadly distraction. Something about her is reawakening a heart I thought was long dead. But in a race against evil, the only hope mankind has is that I do my duty. And how can I do my duty when it means that I will have to sacrifice the only woman I've ever loved?

Can Sherrilyn Kenyon get any better? I have enjoyed her Dark Hunter books for some time, she is right up there with some of the best authors of today. If you haven't read her books take time to review the Dark Hunter series, you will be really pleased.

This book followed the same line as the others but I didn't like this one as much as the others. I think the female dark hunter should have been way more bad-ass then she was and I think this guy who was one of the first dark hunter should have been way more bad-ass as well. It was ok, but not on my reread list. I do like getting more info about Archeron. I can't wait for his book

This was my first Dark Hunter book and I'm hooked! I'm very glad this book had a short "The Beginning" section in back so that I could get a grasp on the Dark Hunter history. If you want to start reading the Dark Hunter series, I suggest that you start by reading The Beginning on Kenyon's website: www.kinleymacgregor.com/hunter//acheronstory.htm .

Alexion isn't really his name. It's actually his title. When he was human, he was known by another name and has already appeared in a Dark-Hunter story. However, it's for the reader to figure out who he is.
Brutally betrayed, Alexion is a quiet man who believes whole-heartedly in talking soft and carrying a big stick. He is truly the angel of death. No one ever wants to face him in the dark of night. Lightning fast, and brutally frank, he never takes prisoners or comprises. After all, you can't bargain with the devil's right hand.

That being said, he has a penchant for expensive clothes and popcorn. Unlike most people in the Dark-Hunter realm, he wears a long, white coat that is his trademark (those who know their history might find a significant clue to his identity by this). He has nothing to hide and takes pride in not being what other people expect. There is nothing he treasures more than the company of a willing female and a few hours of freedom from his duties.

Out of all of the books in this series I like this one the least. It was merely okay.

Dorcas M. (dormet) reviewed on 1/25/2008...

I was really disappointed with this one. I've been enjoying this series and have tried to read them in order, so I had high hopes when it came to this one. However, it was set somewhere other than New Orleans and as a result seemed to lose depth and the setting was very flat. Also, the character lacked depth and humor, both elements to Kenyon's writing that I truly look forward to now. The heroine's betrayal by her husband when she died was vague and unbelievable; can't imagine why Artemis bothered with making her a Dark-Hunter. Ias' story wasn't explained enough for me, either, which is a shame because there were great elements to his background that could have provided much meat to the story. I wasn't clear at all about how Acheron blew it with saving him and why Ias had to stay alone forevermore just because Ach doesn't like too many people in his realm. LOVED Simi's sibling, though! This book could have been so much better! Big disappointment.

Sins of the Night is the first book I've read by Sherrilyn Kenyon, and the first Dark-Hunter novel I've read. I must say I was impressed with her writing and the development of the characters. She provides vivid descriptions and thorough background information on the characters. I was definitely pulled into this story, picturing the scenery and characters, caring about what happened to them. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am eager to read others in this series.
