B- review at best.
The problem I have with Maverick is that they are portraying Risa (the heroine) as helpless. Yes I understand she went through a terrible ordeal...one I couldn't begin to imagine...but they treat her as if she's a child and in a way she lets them. I'm all for vulnerability - even like it to be present in a good storyline - but it seems in this book LL has made the heroine too wimpy and the hero too alpha, which in my opinion is not a good combo. I'm about 30 pages from being done so I doubt anything will change my opinion. I love Micah (Maverick) and the background he has and his almost insane dedication to his mission and I love the heritage she gave him. I am TOTALLY done with the word "soul" being in every love scene!! and I wish she had made Risa to be a strong woman who came through an unbelievable event, instead of the "I'm so ugly....ooh poor me....you lied to me" persona she gave her.

Another good read from this author. Risa was betrayed by the one person who should've protected and cherished her-her own father, yet she shows such strength of character and an amazing determination to survive and be a whole person again, but the real healing begins when Micah comes into the picture, and together they help each other move forward, while trying to stay alive.

I found this book to be pretty good. The characters were good together, with her being somewhat of a weak female in the story and him alpha male..it just fit. I just like how L.L. balanced them out. Good story line, great characters, and hot sex!!
Micah & Risa r also really sweet. he's been 'reborn' as an Elite Ops guy n he's fiesty n hot. Risa subjected 2 horrible, horrible experiences from her father has come out on the other side. and falls right into Micah's lap. these 2 r so cute, very hot too. he helps her move past all her bad sh*t, and she helps him thru his. very amazing what these 2 have been thru n now have each other. i really loved this one. suspense, action n sex. NICE!! KEEPER!!
excellent book! very touching, caring relationship, suspensful, exciting. Want to read more and more. Read it!

This seems like a very pale imitation of some of Leigh's "Breeds" series books, particularly "Megan's Mark" and "Dawn's Awakening." (A much, much better book.) I got very tired of the heroine's constant dwelling on her supposed ugliness and I didn't really see the love between the charcters, just the hot sex.
Also, after the big build up in the introduction about how Leigh had researched her Jewish hero, there was virtually nothing about that in the story other than his not eating bacon--notably not even one thought on his part about the fact that if he has children with a woman who isn't Jewish, they won't be Jewish. Not that I would expect that to impede True Love, but he should at least have thought about it.
Micah Sloane knows almost everything there is to know about Risa Clay, including the vicious betrayal she endured years ago and the distrust she's harbored ever since. The only way for the Elite Ops agent to uncover an assassin--and banish the ghosts of his own dark past--is to use Risa as bait. But nothing has prepared him for her disarming blend of innocence and sensuality, or for his overwhelming need to protect her...
Risa has spent 8 years rebuilding her life. And now, to save it, she must pose as Micah's lover and draw a killer into the open. It's a risky plan--especially w/ a man as powerfully seductive as Micah. But, as their charade becomes reality, Risa realizes the greatest danger may lie in losing her heart forever...
while I have enjoyed a number of Lora Leigh's books, I thought this was exceptional. The characters are great as is the story.
This is a very dark romance. There is a scene in the middle that made me cry, and that never happens.
In another scene, she asks when her world will be sane again...and another character answers that the world is not sane, but that some people have pretty illusions. This is an underlying theme in this storyline that starts in the Tempting Seals series and has branched off into the Elite Ops series.
i usually love lora leigh. but this one didn't hold my interest.

Book 2 of the Elite Ops series is a real page turner with strong characters and suspenseful plotting. The story line is a continuation of the story arc started in the Tempting Seals series. Be sure to leave yourself sufficient time to finish...

I LOVED Maverick! I think the hero Micah is great and Risa (heroine) has weak moments but for what she went through it is expected.. I think she proved that she is strong and determined to overcome all... All in all it was a great read and the characters were good. I give it an A.

This was a good book to read. The main character Risa has not had the easiest time but Micah is good for her. It was a good book. It caught the reader's attention right away.

The book was really good. A little sad and I really felt bad for Risa and the heck she went through. But still a good read.
