Book Description Bit:

Since the death of her husband, Anne Dunne and her three children have struggled in every way. In a last ditch effort to save the family, Anne plans an elaborate sailing vacation to bring everyone together once again. But only an hour out of port, everything is going wrong. The teenage daughter, Carrie, is planning to drown herself. The teenage son, Mark, is high on drugs and ten-year-old Ernie is nearly catatonic. This is the worst vacation ever.

Anne manages to pull things together bit by bit, but just as they begin feeling like a family again, something catastrophic happens. Survival may be the least of their concerns.

Written with the blistering pace and shocking twists that only James Patterson can master, SAIL takes "Lost" and "Survivor" to a new level of terror.

My Bit:

WOW!! Yet another hit novel!! Read it one day because I literally could not put it down ... kept saying, Oh I have to read just one more chapter and before I knew it, there were no more!! The plot and cast of characters just sucks you in from page one and never lets you go, with twists and turns at every corner. This is classic Patterson ...

Actually, the woman's name is Dr. Katherine Dunne. This IS a one-day read, mostly because a person is brought into the action right away. Well written, and although it's only 308 pages, the print isn't as large as it has been on a couple of recent novels by Patterson. And you don't really know how it ends until . . . the end.

This is truly a 5 star book.***** I couldn't put it down. "Just one more chapter, just ONE more chapter." I started it on Monday night and finished it Tuesday afternoon. If you read the earlier reviews, you know the plot. Peter, Katherine's husband and her children's step father, not only sabotaged the "sail" by trying to commit murder on the high seas, he was a cheat as well. Lots of twists and turns in this book and the action was fast paced. Get ready for the surprise ending. For those who have abandoned Patterson, because some of his more recent books just haven't measured up, now is the time to rediscover this author. Read it! You will not be disappointed.

I loved this book. The tone changes from character to character so it really works having the dual authorship. Plenty of adventure, plenty of intrigue. Katherine Dunne plans a long sailing trip to try to get her children closer to her; stoner Mark, bulimic Carie, and 10 year old Ernie who sees the world through the eyes of a 30 year old. Good entertainment.

By far this one was the best of all the new ones I had to read this summer. It of course is a little predictable, but isn't that what makes reading fun for some of us? I love to guess, this time I was WRONG, and that doesn't happen too often. I was drawn in by the first chapter and then could not stop. No laundry, no cooking, just reading. The quick chapters make it fast to read "just one more". The ending was a surprise to me, but so were several of the events. I hate to give anything away but if you are choosing between Evanovich, Scottoline or this to put your money into, this one is worth it! Now onto Deaver as soon as it comes up as wish granted~

Although I don't care for first person in a narative type book. I did think this was very good. Not Koonz of course, but a good fast read

Fairly decent, but suspense level seemed a little less intense to me than I expect from James Patterson - way too obvious who the killer was... I usually cannot figure that out so easily. But well written for sure... characters sure did have interesting quirks to them, still a good Patterson read.

This book was amazing, I really did love it. It was alot more than I expected it to be. There was alot of law n order in it which I didn't know. I thought there would be more with the boat and the family. I did think it was a great book and a fast read. I had it done in 4 days flat but I really kept at it. I didn't put it down for long. It is a must read for any Patterson fan! ENJOY! I don't want to spoil stuff so I'm keeping the review brief.

I didn't enjoy this as much as I have other Patterson novels, but still a good read.

This story line and the way it is written is more like a lame 'fluff' work. The premise is a good one but the wordage doesn't fit the senario and the way it unfolds. This is like a tongue in cheek dialogue that leaves much to be desired by the reader. I was very disappointed. Mr. Patterson generally does a much better job. This is like he teamed up with Janet Evanovich to write a tongue in cheek farce. He adopted Stuart Woods concept of two or three page chapters. It works well for Mr Woods and Stone Barrington; but not for Patterson in this case. I give this book two thumbprints down. It was a quick read though so the pain was short lived.

This is an exciting story that has some heart felt moments and some times that you want to punch some of the characters. It was a great book!

The first of James Patterson's books I've read..I thought it was fantastic, very fast and easy read, but at the same time kept you intrigued, and turning pages. A great book for a week-end get-a-way.

Katherine Dunne and her three children Carrie, Mark and Ernie each carry their own package and it didn't get easier with the family when the husband and father died four years ago. The children out of control, Katherine find a new man after three years: renowned celebrity attorney Peter Carlyle.

As a last attempt Katherine decided to take the two teenagers and little Ernie on a boat cruise together with her ex brother-in-law Jake. From the beginning things go bad. From water in the boat to a rupture in an important hose and a storm nearing that wasn't supposed to be there. Hardly surviving the storm the boat suddenly explodes leaving the family swimming in the ocean without any help to come.

Meanwhile back in New York Peter Carlyle plays the distressed husband, secretly dreaming about of his wife's inherited millions which soon will be his.
When suddenly a fisherman shows of his huge catch and a Coke bottle, containing a desperate message written by the family Dunne that they are alive on an island, falls out of the animals mouth.

The pressure is on. Who will find the family first ?
Peter, who didn't take into account a suspicious coast guard and an alarmed DEA agent. Or those two trying to unravel the mystery behind the families disappearance and find the evidence to nail Peter Carlyle ?

-

During the families experience, losing their uncle Jack to his third-degree burns, survival on an island and it's dangers, it felt good to read how the family found back together out of their need. They find to each other and discover themselves anew.
I was in shock when in a moment of shear happiness the boat exploded. It really got to me. Unfortunately it was the only moment where I wasn't able to put down the book. I understand that James Patterson is a mass market brand name but I honestly didn't understand that this book got published written as it is. The plot is easy but could be much more refined with details and most of all with action. In the end the family is sitting on an island trying to survive.

Honestly, I didn't think that this was worth the wait. Definitely somewhat predictable. James Patterson has much better books out there.
