This is a wonderful addition to the McKettrick Cowboy series. This is the story of Angus McKettrick's first born son Holt. First introduced in the McKettrick Cowboy stories, Holt had a grudge against Angus for the way that he treated Holt after the death of his mother. Ms Miller used several books to introduce and make us fall in love with Holt then she wisely gave us an entire book for Holt's story.
Summoned to Texas to help his foster father, Holt meets Lorelei, the headstrong daughter of the local judge. Soon Holt and Lorelei are butting heads but also working together to try and save 2 ranches and the life of Holt's friend. While all of this turmoil is happening around them, they are falling in love.
While you can appreciate this book as a standalone story, I would recommend reading the previous books in this series, High Country Bride, Shotgun Bride and Secondhand Bride prior to reading this book in order to get a full understand of the family dynamics that drive Holt and his brothers.
An excellent book- I could not put the book down once I started to read it.

Linda Lael Miller is known for writing heart-tugging, emotional Western romances, and with MCKETTRICK'S CHOICE, she delivers yet again. The MCKETTRICK BROTHERS TRILOGY began in 2002 with HIGH COUNTRY BRIDE, followed in 2003 with SHOTGUN BRIDE, and finished in 2004 with SECONDHAND BRIDE. The saga now takes a surprising turn in 2005 with MCKETTRICK'S CHOICE, the story of the oldest McKettrick brother, Holt, who was raised away from the iron fist of family patriarch, Angus, and the three brothers from the trilogy-Rafe, Kade, and Jeb.
Holt McKettrick spent a large part of his life as Holt Cavanagh, adopted son of John Cavanagh, a rancher with a spread outside of San Antonio, Texas. Now back in the McKettrick fold-with the tensions and egos that four competing males are bound to bring-Holt is in the process of marrying Miss Margaret Tarquin when a letter from Texas changes his plans.
The short note advises Holt that his adoptive father, John, is about to be driven from his land, and former Ranger buddy, Gabe Navarro, is to be hanged for murder and thievery. Holt, as a McKettrick and a Cavanagh, has no choice but to leave the Arizona Territory and return to Texas to set matters straight.
But upon arrival, mayhem awaits. People have been killed, lands have been burned, and one Miss Lorelie Fellows, who happens to own the land next to John Cavanagh's, is attempting to drive Holt insane.
MCKETTRICK'S CHOICE is Western historical romance at its best-lively characters, a wonderful story line, attention to historic detail, and Ms. Miller's personal brand of story-telling make this book a very enjoyable read. Mystery, suspense, passion, and family duty don't disappoint.

A good edition to the McKettrick series (#4, I think?) It's been a while since I read the first three so I needed to brush up a little bit on Holt McKettrick.
The whole book takes place in about a 10 day span so the story line moves along quickly, though the book bogged down a bit here and there.
I really enjoy Miller's word usage. She often narrates like an old cowpoke whose been on the trail for a couple grizzly years. Her books, especially her historical westerns, have entertained me for years.

Awesome series of 4 books. Very good reading! I have all 4 in this McKettrick series! Wonderful story!
THis is the fourth volume (add-on) to the McKettrick Cowboys trilogy. It's Holt's story and very heartwarming. Can he arise above his past and take his proper spot with the rest of his half-brothers? Will he find a mother for his daughter and wife for himself? Read it and find out! Linda Lael Miller at her finest. The other stories in the trilogy are: HIGH COUNTRY BRIDE (vol. 1); SHOTGUN BRIDE (vol. 2); SECONDHAND BRIDE (vol. 3). Each of his brothers has a separate volume.

I love the McKettricks Series . And hope there are more in the future
For some reason all the McKettrick men scream "Hot!" and I love reading about them. I've been a long time Lael fan and love her writing style and all of her books. Definatey was happy with this one as well.
I started out reading Linda Lael Miller's McKettrick's series with this book and love everyone I have read. They keep getting better.

When news came that there was trouble back in Texas...Holt McKettrick left a mail-order bride and his family on the spot, and he never looked back.He just prayed he'd be in time to save the man who had raised him as a son and keep his best friend from the gallows. He knew he'd encounter rustlers, scoundrels and thieves. But he never expected to find a woman like Lorelei Fellows.
Set in Texas....good book! Like new.

I like the McKettrick series, this one goes back to the 1880's.Some history for the newer ones coming out.
I love the McKettrick series! This book is a wonderful addition to it!
And he never looked back. He just prayed he'd be in time to save the man who had raised him as a son and keep his best friend from the gallows. He knew he'd encounter rustlers, scoundrels, and thieves. But he'd never expected to find a woman like Lorelei Fellows. But Lorelei had had enough. She was sick of men and their schemes. All she wanted was to stake her claim on her own little piece of Texas. And with Holt Mckettrick as a neighbor, things were beginning to look up. The man was a straight shooter with a strong will, and steady aim and hungry heart.

great book, held my intrest til last page.
When news come that there was trouble in Texas-Holt McKettrick leaves a mail-order bride & his family to keep his best friend from the gallows. He didn't expect to meet a woman like Lorelei. Lorelei was weary of scheming men, but when Holt becomes her neighbor, she sees a straight shooter with a strong will, steady aim & a hungry heart.
Wonderful book. Set in the old west setting with a cattle drive and a woman who will not stay in her place. Full of laughs and a few tears.
Loved this book! However, I am very sad that the McKettrick story is over. ::sniff sniff::
This was a great way to end with the McKettrick brides! Holt and Lorelei's story was great. Especially, since it had a little bit of Kade McKettrick, too.

c. 1888 Another sexy McKettrick man - this one (Holt) leaves a mail-order bride at the alter in Arizona when he gets word that the man who raised him needs help back in Texas. He arrives in town to see a woman setting fire to her wedding dress in the town square.

cowboy romance - very good
The latest, or last in the Mcketterick series--this one about Holt who meets a gutsy, beautiful woman while trying to help his foster father and a Ranger friend battle a crooked judge and a evil cattle baron.
I enjoyed this book very much. It is the third book in McKettrick Bride series, I believe. Linda Lael Miller is always enjoyable!
