A good book, confusing in the start, but once you get used to the character stories jumping back and forth, it gets better.

Great book! This is the beginning of the Pants series andso much fun to read. :) Very well written also. All of these books have made me cry.

I decided to read this series after catching a few minutes of the first movie on ABC Family. I decided not to watch the rest of the movie as I wanted to read the book series first. I had to say that I really did enjoy this relatively light story of friendship. It takes a few pages to get used to the constant jumping between characters, but that's also what keeps the pace of the story moving. Tibby's story and Lena's story are the two that interested me the most. All in all, I really enjoyed it as a nice, light, quick read! :-)

I'm glad I read this. A fast read that wasn't on a low level, and not filled with sex and drugs like other YA adults. I can see why this is a bestseller now.

I have not seen the movie, and maybe I will later. This was a "feel good" book, which we all need once in awhile!
A particular pair of jeans fits all the "girlfriends" in just the right way....so when one gal finishes her "time" with the jeans, she forwards them to the next and so on and so on. It was just a very nice, light read! Enjoy

I can see where teenagers would like this but I found it disappointing. These girls aren't quite 16 and they lie about where they go, what they do, and fly off without their parents knowing a thing about it.

I would probably read the next in the series, though. It is a quick read.

Four very different friends, one pair of magical pants and a summer apart.....

Four friends find a magical pair of pants. rules are set, pants can not be washed, can never double cuff the pants, must never say the word"phat" while wearing the pants, you must never let a boy take of the pants,.......

Four very different friends. One pair of magical pants. And a summer apart...

As four best friends spend their first summer apart from one another, they share a magical pair of jeans. Despite being of various shapes and sizes, each one of them fits perfectly into the pants. To keep in touch they pass these pants to each other as well as the adventures they are going through while apart.

When I first got my hands on the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, I felt like I was pushing myself just to pick it up. But as I got more and more into the book, it began to get predictable. Once Bailey's mother told Tibby her secret, I knew what was going to be the outcome of this. The same applied to Lena and Kotos, Carmen and her father (along with the 'surprise'), and Bridget with Eric. Overall, I thought it was a good book with many personalities.

Overall an amazing book. I never thought I'd enjoy it because of the changing perspectives but it was just that good! Centered around friendship and the people who define who we are four friends head off for very separate summer adventures. They keep in touch through a shared pair of pants. An unmistakable bond binds them together which will be recognized instantly by anyone who has ever had those friends to whom you are so close its like your lives are one. Perfect for anyone who loves a good beach read filled to the brim with fabulous quotes to come back to for future reference. I cannot wait to read the other books!

This is basically chick lit for teenagers. The friendships are very important and while each girl goes through some harrowing, coming of age, experiences what each goes through is realistic.
One girl buys a pair of jeans – magically, although they are NOT of the same body type, the jeans fit all of them and look GREAT.
The jeans tie them together as they are separated for the first time in their lives during a summer vacation – they will turn 16 at the end of the summer. Each one gets the sense of the entire circle of friends being there for her as she wears the pants.
It becomes a sweet, semi-mystical experience for them. They grow up in the summer. There are other books in this series. I think I’ll stop at one.
I saw the movie based on the book a few years ago, so many of my visual images were from the movie. One sub-plot was changed rather dramatically for the movie. I wonder why.
The book is sweet and a light read – it is meant for young teenagers.

This book is the 1st in a series. It starts a story of 4 girls in their teens that are spending their first summer apart. They are less upset about it because of a pair of jeans they call the Traveling Pants.

Trade paperback in excellent condition.
They were just a soft, ordinary pair of thrift-shop jeans until the four girls took turns trying them on--four girls, that is, who are close friends, about to be parted for the summer, with very different sizes and builds, not to mention backgrounds and personalities. Yet the pants settle on each girl's hips perfectly, making her look sexy and long-legged and feel confident as a teenager can feel. "These are magical Pants!" they realize, and so they make a pact to share them equally, to mail them back and forth over the summer from wherever they are. Beautiful, distant Lena is going to Greece to be with her grandparents; strong, athletic Bridget is off to soccer camp in Baja, California; hot-tempered Carmen plans to have her divorced father all to herself in South Carolina; and Tibby the rebel will be left at home to slave for minimum wage at Wallman's.
Over the summer the Pants come to represent the support of the sisterhood, but they also lead each girl into bruising and ultimately healing confrontations with love and courage, dying and forgiveness. Lena finds her identity in Greece and the courage not to reject love; Bridget gets in over her head with an older camp coach; Carmen finds her father ensconced with a new fiancée and family; and Tibby unwillingly takes on a filmmaking apprentice who is dying of leukemia. Each girl's story is distinct and engrossing, told in a brightly contemporary style. Like the Pants, the reader bounces back and forth among the four unfolding adventures, and the melange is spiced with letters and witty quotes. Ann Brashares has here created four captivating characters and seamlessly interwoven their stories for a young adult novel that is fresh and absorbing.

This is a touching, heartwarming story of four friends who spend their first summer apart. These girls stay together through a pair of magic traveling pants, which miraculously fit all of them. They go through drama, tough decision-making, amazing new people, and the thrill of finding their first love. It is an amazing book, and I strongly recommend it.

I loved loved loved reading this novel. It made me reminisce about reading Judy Blume's "Are You There God? It's Me Margaret." The four girls were so easy to fall in love with because their personalities and qualities are so similar to what I was like as a little girl. I recommend this for both girls and women, as both groups will get joy out of reading it. The movie is great, yes. But nothing compares to reading it.
