This book was great up until the end. The end was just absolute crap and sticks with the "formula" this author keeps using. She is continually killing off the bad guys with Scarpetta at the scene of the crime and it's just getting old. I mean really, how many times are serial killers just outright killed on the street instead of taken into custody? (And by a doctor no less?!?!) She tries to get all these facts into the books regarding forensics and crime and then makes an ending that is hurried and ridiculous. If the rest of the book weren't so well-written, I'd throw my hands up and quit reading this series. If the books continue to have such unoriginal endings, I probably will, because I expect authors to try some diversity in their storytelling instead of always having the villain killed by the heroine, who, in this story, is just a medical examiner. I mean really, how many M.E.s do we here about taking out bad guys like this one does? Good grief.

A mystery featuring the medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta. Full of twists and turns - reminiscent of shows like CSI and Criminal Minds.

Creepy complications, combined with the downright macabre atmosphere of this Dr. Kay Scarpetta tale makes this book a frantic and , at times, suirreal thriller---A must read!!!!

Patricia Cornwells Kay Scarpetta is a character who becomes addicting. Smart, Funny, brave, and tough she is a character who sticks with you, and you will find yourself wanting to read the whole series. Chapters are on the shorter side so the book is easier to digest.

Part of the Kay Scarpetta, Chief Medical Examiner of VA, series. Several of the CSI episodes on TV are based on this series. I say, start at the beginning... check patriciacornwell.com for a list of all the books in the series.

A good follow-up to Cruel and Unusual. Temple Gault is a seriously creepy character and she does a great job of carrying on the story
Good twists and turns. Not warming to the characters, though.
Author Patricia Cornwell once again enters the chilling world of Dr. Kay Scarpetta, Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia and consulting forensic pathologist for the FBI. Upon examining a dead woman found in snowbound Central Park, Scarpetta immediately recognizes the grisly work of Temple Brooks Gault, a bold, brilliant killer from her past. Soon she realizes that Gault's murders are but a violent chain leading up to one ultimate kill: Scarpetta herself. Now she must stay her own fears and keep step with a psychopath who is always one step ahead, both everywher and nowhere. But even with the help of her FBI and police comrades. Scarpetta knows the endgame is hers alone to play. Having repeatedly plunged into the madness of Gault's mind, Scarpetta must finally descend into his terrifying home in the subway tunnels beneath New York City. And contront the one killer who would not be caught..........

Patricia Cornwell is a great author... or so I've been told. I have read several of her books and I just don't think they are that great. However, Many other people like her and she's selling more books than I am, so I don't feel I have room to complain.
Upon examining a dead woman found in snowbound Centraol Park, Scarpetta immediately recognizes the grisly work of Temple Brooks Gault, a bold brilliant killer from her past. Soon she realizes that Gault's murders are but a violent chain leading up to one ultimate kill: Scarpetta herself.
Patricia Cornwell's Scarpetta is my favorite!

This book just didn't do it for me, and I was disappointed. The plot flows okay, but Cornwell's writing isn't to the standard I felt some of her other novels were. Some sections were downright unrealistic, and the ending was abrupt and ridiculous.
Hope others will enjoy it more than I did.
