Book Reviews of The Kitchen Witch (Accidental Witch, Bk 1)

Yeah, I should know better than to expect to love this kind of romance novel, as it's not my preferred genre, but this one bugged me quite a bit. It is so repetitive; "Logan is so wrong for me but I want him" and "Melody is so wrong for me but I want her" take up about the first half of the book. Ugh. It just bugged the crap out of me after a while. I wanted the story to move forward and it didn't until the last few chapters. Now it wasn't totally horrible, just not very good either.

Did not like it at all. Not what I was expecting and should not be classified as paranormal.

Melody is charming and disaster seems to follow her.
An engaging story of how she finds her calling as a TV cook.
Logan is a single father trying to get things together after recently becoming a full time Dad.
Great story of how they each compliment the other to make their lives richer.

Anyone worrying that this is a how-to witch book will be sorely disappointed. It is most definitely a romance, but the main character may be a witch. She does have the wand, hat and broom. She also has a father, who thinks money is love, and a need to find a job, since a spell cost her the last one.
Logan is a reformed bad boy who has become a stuffed shirt. He has a new job and no one available to baby-sit his four-year-old son. He convinces Melody to baby-sit after agreeing to find her a job at the TV station. She takes him up on the offer, but not quite in the way he expected.
One very mismatched couple, three meddling parents/friend, and an adorable little boy make for an interesting story.

Not a paranormal romance but more of a romantic comedy. If you are looking for a fun read,look no further.

This book was not what I expected. It really is more of a just a traditional romance with the whimsy of a possible witch. The beginning half of the book was very frustrating to read. It was the same situation written over and over again. The second half of the book got more into the lives of the characters, but it did feel jumpy. You would read the ending of a chapter were the character had one thought and emotion about certain situations, only to turn the page and find that without any words being said about it they had changed thier mind. Although it was not a horrible read, I do not find myself compelled to read the rest of the series.

I read the second book first but it didn't matter. This isn't so much a real paranormal book as a quirky romance. I did like the book though and would definitely read more from this author.

A Berkley Sensation Contemporary Romance set in Salem, Mass. Good dialogue, except for the 4 year old son, who was not credible. Funny and sexy. Altogether enjoyable.

The title alone leads you to believe this will be a paranormal romance, but it truly is not.

There is a small amount of 'is she a witch' & a friend who is supposedly a witch, but really the only thing witch related is as a gimmick for the female lead to land a job as a cooking show host.

Once I got over the initial disappointment, I was disappointed again because this was just an average romance book. Nothing jumped out & grabbed me - no humor, no spark, flat characters, etc...

We oh-so-briefly met Kira, who is featured in book #2, but not enough to make me want to read more from this series.

When Logan Kilgarven hired a his flaky rich girl rumored witch neighbor Melody Seabright to watch his son Shane he never expected he would find the new star of his stations cooking show. There's only one problem she may be bright & charismatic but she cant cook to save her life. What's the solution, well isn't it obvious, she'll claim Shane is her child so they can get free day care at the station in exchange for some cooking lessons. Things are going great & Logan gets to quit fearing that he will lose his job but there is still a problem, Shane is falling in love with Melody & Logan just may have found his son a new mother no matter how much he tries to deny his fillings. Very cute, light read. There are lots of laughs to be had when Melody is in the Kitchen, with everything from eyeball soup to exploding turkeys. She may not be the worlds greatest cook but you just can't help but love her.

I really wanted to like this book. It sounded so cute. First of all, it shouldn't take over 100 pages to describe the sexual tension between 2 people. I found myself saying "get it over with!!" but not that nicely......lol

The story was very slow to start. But I am one of those people that once I start a book I have to suffer through it. So I did, but I shouldn't have. I will NOT read anymore of the series and will think before choosing any books by this author again.

Well...not sure why this was listed as a PARANORMAL romance...I think the only "paranormal" about this book, was the title, and the marketing of Mel as a "witch".
This was a romance, through and through. Cutesy story, but good grief! How many times could two people keep thinking that they're nuts over each other, but "they're the wrong one for me!" Boo Hoo....gimme a break! Back to REAL paranormal for me! ;o)

This book was just awful. I couldn't get past 70 pages, even though I was really hoping for an improvement. It's not paranormal at all. It's just about some wanna be who pretends to be a witch because the town rumors say she's one. The writing style is also very lame. I felt like I was reading a book written in the style of a chapter book for kids but with porn thrown in so it could be marketed to adults. Disappointed because I had read another book from this author awhile back that was much better.

I was expecting a paranormal romance based upon the blurb and was sorely disappointed. There's nothing paranormal about it. It's a standard romance with fill-in-the-blank names and a threadbare plot. It has some funny parts (the TV cook's early cooking disasters for one), but that doesn't save it from a tired, done to death storyline. Also, the whole "I want her, but can't have her because I'm such a great dad" went on for way, way, way, way, WAY too long (and was annoying as all get out)! If you like straight romances and don't mind the fact that the ending is as predictible as the rest of the book, you'll enjoy reading this- otherwise, skip it!

Very fun book - a good beach read - light but very entertaining! It is the first I have read by Annette Blair but I can't wait to read the second one. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and I know you will also. Carol

I really liked this story. Even though, you never see any real evidence that Melody is infact a real 'witch", it's still a cute romantic story. I hope the next 2 in the series are as good.

It was okay... a little too "happily ever after" for my usual taste. I found myself constantly berating Melody and Logan for their dense headed-ness in denying their feelings for each other. If they're both too stupid to go for the gusto when it's dumped right in their lap, then they deserve to be miserable! Fortunately, like all romances, both realize their true feelings and all is well.

Was Melody really a Witch? Well, they live in Salem, Massachusetts, and Melody has a cooking show named "The Kitchen Witch", a herb garden in her backyard, a purple front door with bright yellow stars, and a friend Kira who's also a Witch. Plus she has her "spells" and incantations she does during her cooking show. So I suspect she probably is, as her zest for life would seem to indicate.

But Melody's character, were she a true Witch, would've embraced the superficial differences she believed existed between herself and Logan, instead of trying to deny and supress the constant electricity between them. A Witch will go for what they want out of life, bring it into manifestation so to speak. So throughout the book, her actions had me doubting she was anything more than a Witch wanna-be. But there was never enough emphasis placed on any of her magickal workings to truly judge one way or another.

Logan's fear of trusting someone who claims to be a witch, while he himself lives in Salem, is pretty laughable. Is she really a Witch? he keeps asking himself. I don't think being a Witch—which is something I openly admit myself to anyone who asks—has the negative connotation it once had long ago, so I didn't care for Logan's inital aversion to Witches given where he lives (and grew up). Truth be told, it kind of made me like his character less.

I know it probably sounds like I'm being fairly harsh on this book, but I must say that despite all the criticism I gave it above, the story held my interest enough to keep me reading. So for those whom romance is their favorite reading genre, and who maybe aren't as critical as I am with regards to Witchcraft stuff, they might like this book better than I did. As it is, I gave it a 6 because to me, anything less than a 5 would indicate I had to struggle through it and almost didn't finish it, which certainly wasn't the case here. With the sole exception of Melody's denying her feelings for Logan, I admired her zest for life, a characteristic I strongly embrace in myself. Live for the moment!

A wonderfully funny, sexy, heartwarming tale about a culinary challenged witch who lands herself a cooking show in Salem, MA, her upstairs neighbor, the station producer, and his young son who find themselves becoming a family. Very well done! I'll be looking for more by this author.

A fun romp of a book! Melody, a witch who literally can't cook, lands her own cooking show and causes things to heat up with television station employee Logan. My only complaint is that although the book is wonderful fun, it seems drawn out and "padded" at times to stretch a shorter story into novel length. It is still very well worth the read if you like this sort of romance!

Modern romance that is funny and has it all.

A book set in Salem, Massachusetts, must be about witches. Of course. In this case, the witch is in the kitchen on a TV cooking show. It must be magic because she doesn't even know how to cook! She is gorgeous, she has a brain that knows how to package herself and the concept for a show and she wins through, despite many, many disasters and near disasters. She also brings magic into the life of her boss and his young son who has been abandoned by his flighty mom who is giving up custody. A delicious romp!

This book is so great. Its not too long. The chemistry between the two main characters is super hot. You can't wait for these two to get together. Perfect.
