I love this series of Emily Brightwell's, Mrs Jeffries & the Inspector [which is the first book in the series]. They all take place in England in the 1800's. Mrs Jeffries is the housekeeper for the Inspector with Scotland Yard. Unbeknown to the Inspector, Mrs. Jeffries and his household staff help him to solve his cases. There are about 13 characters that are developed in the reading. They are a quick read about 250 pages long and always fun.
These Victorian mysteries are always an entertaining cozy read. This one is set at Christmastime and involves a Baron, so Insp. Witherspoon is under pressure, but as usual, the staff pitches in.
Mrs. Jeffries is considered to be the Miss Marple of any Victorian mystery.
