I just finished this book. One of her better books. I love Laurell Hamilton's books, however, I prefer the older books in the collection when Anita was still a hardcore vampire slayer and not a hardcore sex addict. I like the newer books okay but they seem to be so focused on the ardeur that they don't have the plot that the first in the series did. I recommend this one to anyone who enjoys Anita in her crime fighting days. I have read five books in the series but I'm geting them out of order. Does anyone have a list of how the order goes?

I like the earlier books better in the series before Anita picked up the Ardeur. I like the earlier Anita who seemed grittier and I liked her morals that she stuck to. Although the newer Anita has some serious magical power, I liked the hands & guns proficient Anita better who relied on her wits more than magic. I do not mind a little sex but the newer books are becoming more erotica than fiction. Seems each new book adds more lovers to Anita's bed, I wonder when she will reach enough.

One of the more sexually graphic of the series. A big tease with the Jean-Claude possibilities...

A dispute over land ownership finds Anita Blake in the middle of a construction site with corpse pieces everywhere. After meeting her customer she decides to take a look around town and finds herself involved in yet another mystery as she meets the owner of Bloody Bones, who is also a Fey.

These books just seem to get sexier and steamier as they go, which works really well with the gothic fantasy world that the characters reside in. It's definitely a more interesting version of Missouri than what we're used to! The author does a great adding new species and characters and I've already got a few favorites. The mix of horror, laughs, and mystery is great and it's a wonderful series for anyone who loves this genre.

Very entertaining. Has a bit of faerie lore in the story for those who like that.

One of the earlier books in the series, Bloody Bones finds Anita grittier and still pretty rough around the edges. This is a good, solid story, but of a different ilk than the later books in the series.

Interesting book about vampires and werewolves. Not really my cup of tea.

I really liked this book. In the earlier book series Anita was this hard core kick ass slayer who never showed much of a human side to her persona. She comes across as much more human in admitting her feelings of attraction to Jean Claude. Finally!! I was getting worried that her lifestyle and powers were forcing her to become one of the "monsters" that she hunts. I like that there is more romance in books four and five. It was a good mix of romantic interest and her ability to be the "executioner". I look forward to reading the next book and how Anita handles dating both Richard and Jean Claude.

This book renewed my faith in the Anita Blake Series as I did not like the Lunatic Cafe much. Read it and be rejuvenated!

This book is the first edition and has a different cover than the one pictured. It has been read quite a lot and does show wear! If you've never read an "Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter" adventure I highly recommend them!
From the back cover:
"First, there were the dead in the graveyard, two-hundred years dead. I'd been hired to raise them to settle a dispute over who owned the land they were buried in. Then there were the three dead teenagers in the woods, slaughtered in a way I had never seen before. And then they found the dead girl, drained of blood and left in her bed. I knew what that meant, all right. It didn't take a degree in preternatural studies to figure out that something was very wrong ...and I was right in the middle of it. My name is Anita Blake. Welcome to my life..."
