I know, I know. Almost everyone has already read this little book, but I needed a quick read and, although I knew the plot b/c of the film, I was still struck by the heart-wrenching narrative, especially toward the end. As usual with a Sparks book, I even shed a few tears. Took me about 4 hours to read, maybe less.

I read this book on a flight back home from visiting my grandparents. I read the entire book on the flight. It was such an amazing story. It brought tears to my eyes. The book was so well written. Without saying too much, if you've ever had to deal with long-term illness, this book really hits it on the nail.

I read this book in one sitting in only four hours. The story and characters are very engaging. It is the only book I have read that I was actually sobbing! It is better than the movie, a definite MUST read for romance fans. I've read a lot of romance novels and this is like no other.

I loved this book it was better then the movie
I love the story of this book, but was a little disappointed in the writing. Usually I love Nicholas Sparks stories, but the writing in this one just wasn't up to par and was very sappy and odd. Seemed like it was written very quickly or something.
very quick read. I finished it in one afternoon

THE NOTEBOOK is the romance novel of this generation!
Ali and Noah are two very different people, or characters, depending on how you think about it. Ali is from a wealthy family that thinks very highly of themselves, and Noah was raised by his father and has had to work for every penny he has. Which is not much. The characters come alive and it is almost like you personally know both of them. It's amazing! Ali takes a vacation to New Bern where Noah lives. As the summer progresses, their relationship grows stronger and stronger and they fall in love. They fight all the time, but for some crazy reason they are madly in love.
Then the summer ends.
Noah and Ali are devastated that she has to leave. Her parents won't let her stay because they think that she is too good for him. It's absolutely devastating. He writes her letters, which she never receives because her mother intercepts and keeps them. She thinks that Noah has forgotten her.
Then World War II begins.
Noah is deployed for a couple of years and comes home when the war is over. During this time, Ali gets engaged to Lon, a lawyer who her parents approve of because he is socially acceptable. Noah buys an old plantation and fixes it up, and he and the house wind up in the newspaper. So Ali decides that she needs to go see Noah before she gets married, even though she hasn't seen him in fourteen years. At their reunion, they realize that they never fell out of love.
Read the book to find out who Ali chooses, Noah or Lon!

SPOILER ALERT - DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HAVE SOME HINTS ON PLOT!!!
I did not like this book. I do not want to add spoilers here, but will just say that enjoying a love story, and the subsequent years of happiness, only to be smacked in the face with end of life illness is totally unsexy and not at all entertaining. I am all for books about hardships and difficulties, drama and overcoming adversity, etc., but this story seemed to totally negate the many years of happiness for a few years of hardship.
Another Amazing book by Nicholas Sparks!

WOW this book was great get a box of tissue's ready.
"The Notebook" is one of the most beautiful stories ever written. What James Patterson did for thrillers Nicholas Sparks does for romance: he elevates it, drenching it with a richness unfathomable. I cannot believe that this story is fiction; it is so good that it has to be true. True love is real.
"I am nothing special, of this I am sure, I am a common man with common thoughts and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and i\to me, this has always been enough. And so begins one of the most poignant and compelling love stories you will ever read.....and then you will need to read the second book...."The Wedding". You will never forget this book....

I'm not a Nicholas Sparks fan; I find him too sacharine. My daughters, on the other hand, loved it.
Very emotional and touching.
A heart tugging story that makes you take to heart the terms never regret.
Wonderful!! A real tearjerker that you cannot put down. If you love romance and love stories, this is a must read!
Is an achingly tender story about the enduring power of love,a story of miracles that will stay with you.
This is a wonderful book about love. I would recommend it to everyone.
If you like a "feel good" feeling...this is for you. Sad, at times, but overall a celebration of life.
From the back cover, "I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I've led a common life. Bring the Kleenex, the ending was really strong
This is a beautiful story about the love of a boy & girl and how it remains even though they don't see each other for years. This is the first Nicholas Sparks I've read and I'll return to him when I'm in the mood for a warm fuzzy book. It was a little bittersweet because it did discuss the effects of Alzheimers Disease on families, but I really enjoyed it.
what a wonderful book, every one should read it
A very touching book. Another great book by Nicholas Sparks.
