Harry Bosch is a likable Homicide detective cop; this story is about finding the bones of a child buried in a shallow grave in the hills of L.A. Harry and his partner have to first identify the victim then find the murderer. This was my first Connelly book and I enjoyed it. I definitely will look for more from this author.

On New Year's Day a dog finds a bone in the Hollywood Hills and unearths a murder committed over 20 years ago. It's a cold case but Det. Bosch can't let it go.Bosch is taken deeper into the past but a beautiful rookie cop brings him alive in the present.

Yet another great book from one of the masters of mystery/crime fiction. This, the 8th entry in the venerable Harry Bosch series is a classic as always. A lost boy found in a hidden grave leads to a decades-old mystery. For the LAPD detective, this cold case stirs up memories of his own childhood as an orphan. The story is explosive and takes some hard turns that create an uproar that effects all of LA.

I loved this book a lot. Have been reading the Harry Bosch series in order (this is #8) and this was in the top 3 of the series so far. Unexpected plot twists keep you guessing. A real page-turner.

Again, a quick read, fast pace, good story and a great question comes up as well.
Another fabulous Harry Bosch book - Michael Connelly is one of my "must read" authors, I would recommend any of his books.

Definitely a good mystery read, but this book is more about the chain reaction a 25 year old murder discovery creates among the people who intersect with the investigation. Very down to earth and (in most respects) believable.
FYI: Contains a story line about child abuse
3.5 stars out of 5

"A lost boy found in a hidden grave. A decades old mystery. To unearth the truth, Harry Borch must revisit ancient sins"
Another great addition to the Borch series, keeps you guessing until the very end.
A dog finds a bone, brings it home, and so starts another Harry Bosch mystery. A great read.

Maybe I just burned myself out on these books, but I was halfway through, still really not interested and didn't care what happened, so decided to repost. Just very slow and boring.
On New Year's Day, a dog finds a bone in the Hollywood Hills-and unearths a murder committed more than twenty years earlier. It's a cold case, but for Detective Harry Bosch, it stirs up memories of his childhood as an orphan. He can't let it go. As the investigation takes Bosch deeper into the past, a beautiful rookie cop brings him alive in the present. No official warning can break them apart-or prepare Bosch for the explosions when the case takes a few hard turns. Suddenly all of L.A. is in an uproar, and Bosch, fighting to keep control, is driven to the brink of an unimaginable decision.
great read. Love this author
Best Connelly book I've read

Harry Bosch Series Book #7
"On New Year's Day, Detective Harry Bosch fields a call that a dog has found a bone - a bone that the dog's owner, a doctor, feels certain is a human bone." "Bosch investigates, and that chance discovery leads him to a shallow grave in the Hollywood hills, evidence of a murder committed more than twenty years earlier. It's a cold case, but it stirs up Bosch's memories of his own childhood as an orphan in the city. He can't let it go. Digging through police reports and hospital records, tracking down street kids and runaways from the 1970s, Bosch finds a family ripped apart by an absence - and a trail, ever more tenuous, into a violent, terrifying world." As the case takes Bosch deeper into the past, a rookie cop named Julia Brasher brings him alive in the present in a way no one has in years. Bosch has been warned about the trouble that comes with dating a rookie, but no warning could withstand the heat between them - or prepare Bosch for the explosions when the case takes a hard turn. A suspect bolts, a cop is shot, and suddenly Bosch's cold case has all of L.A. in an uproar - and Bosch fighting to keep control in a lawless and brutal showdown.

The Hollywood Hills, New Years Day, a twenty year old crime. A sceptical detective and a beautiful rookie cop. Very entertaining mix. Not the usual read. Some nice unexpected turns to keep you interested.
A very well written book with a surprise ending. Connelly at his best!
Excellent story! A real good detective story without alot of romance or violence!

Harry Bosh mystery. A dog finds a human bone in the Hollywood Hills unearthing a murder 20 years old. A cold case and the possibility of a new warm relationship for Harry.
Harry's past haunts him again as he searches for a child's killer.
If you like mysteries you'll love this one.
Haven't read yet but got 2 copies I really enjoy Connelly's work and have not been disappointed yet.

I've read a few of M. Connelly's book and this one was one of his least well plotted. It ended with a fizz - dissapointing, especially since it was obvious that the direction of the police investigation should have taken place in the beginning in the book. Otherwise, the knowledge of police work shows through and Detection Bosch is a credible, sympathetic hero.

I liked this book! It was my first Micheal Connelly book!
A very nice book that seems to follow actual homocide procedures in the Los Angeles area. I enjoyed this selection and recommend it to others.
Great book! This was the first time I have read this author and I really like his works. He is right up there with James Patterson and Patricia Cornwell type books.
Great detective novel with characters from other books by this author
