Popular free-lance PI Easy Rawlins helps the police solve a murder and prevent further violence in riot-torn 1965 Los Angeles. This one got great reviews from the critics for its brutal honesty about the racial tensions that caused the city to explode, as well as the taut plotting we've come to expect from author Walter Mosley.
Great read! Enjoyed this (as it was my first Easy Rawlins novel by Moseley) I have read some of his other work and I like his writing style.
Walter Mosley's Easy Rawlins novels are period pieces set in Los Angeles in the '50's. Little Scarlet is an especially fine story and even if this was the only one of the series you ever read, you'd come away with a sense of having read a book that enriched your understanding of the world.

Mystery. Easy Rawlins is asked to investigate the death of a young black woman, allegedly at the hands of a white man, in the aftermath of the Watts riots.
A KILLER IN ON THE LOSS IN CHINATOWN
This book is set in the time of the Watts riots and the police want Easy Rawlins to do an important job for them. The story details not only his attempts at this challenge, but also the thoughts and feelings that surrounded and exploded during this turbulent time. It is a great mystery and an education in race relations at the same time.
