From the back cover:
The Women's Murder Club is back! A brilliantly diabolical killer is murdering people from every walk of life. The deaths seem unrelated but police homicide inspector Lindsay Boxer senses a connection and, together with medical examiner Claire, assistant D.A. Jill, and Chronicle reporter Cindy, finds a link that sends a chill through the entire nation. This killer's motives are unspeakable.

Quick Read full, of suspense, love the fact that the chapters are short for easy reading while doing other tasks.. ie: the dr office, waiting for someone....

This series is incredible! I didn't think I would enjoy Patterson, but I was pleasantly surprised by his style of writing. He writes female characters so well - and the main character in this novel is so complex. 2nd Chance was a great follow-up to First to Die and left me wanting to read on.

This being the second book in the series, James Patterson does a good job of taking threads from the first book and tying them into the second book. It progressed fast like most of his books do and did a good job of keeping the reader involved. I liked how he has a main crime that the main characters are trying to solve but also there is usually a back story also that makes the book interesting and allows you to get to the know the characters a little bit more each book that you read.

2nd Chance is the second of James Patterson's Women's Murder Club mystery series, and as with most of his books, the action is fast and furious.

After book number one, First to Die, Lindsey Boxer has been promoted to lieutenant. She now heads San Francisco's homicide division. The calm of San Francisco shatters when it appears that a serial killer is again at work. At first, the targets are black and they seem to be random shootings. But Boxer figures out that all the victims have ties to the police. The killer leaves a trademark: a drawing of an unusual sort-part lion, part goat and part snake. The Women's Murder Club (Lindsey and her three gal-pals) discover that this is the symbol of a white supremacist hate group from prison. But they're especially upset to learn that this just might be an inside job. As with most Patterson books, just when you think the story has ended, there is a lot more still left.

One interesting aspect of 2nd Chance is that it gives the reader a look inside the politics of a homicide case. The African-American residents of San Francisco demand justice. The mayor pressures the chief of police to make a quick arrest. The chief of police breathes down the neck of Boxer and her staff for a quick solution, while his PR people try to put a positive spin on things. The longer the case goes unsolved, the more victims there are. And the FBI is forever on the sidelines, waiting for the chance to muscle in on the case. I'm sure it's something that goes on during all high-profile cases in big cities, but of which most of us are unaware.

2nd Chance reconvenes the Women's Murder Club, four friends (a detective, a reporter, an assistant district attorney, and a medical examiner) who used their networking skills, feminine intuition, and professional wiles to solve a baffling series of murders in 1st to Die. This time, the murders of two African Americans, a little girl and an old woman, bear all the signs of a serial killer for Lindsay Boxer, newly promoted to lieutenant of San Francisco's homicide squad. But there's an odd detail she finds even more disturbing: both victims were related to city cops. A symbol glimpsed at both murder scenes leads to a racist hate group, but the taunting killer strikes again and again, leaving deliberate clues and eluding the police ever more cleverly. In the meantime, each of the women has a personal stake at risk--and the killer knows who they are.

FROM THE PUBLISHER
"The sensational killings that have rocked San Francisco appear to be unrelated except in their brutality. But detective Lindsay Boxer senses there's some thread connecting them all. She calls her friends in the Women's Murder Club together to see if they can discover what it is. Surely some clue has been overlooked by their bosses and male colleagues." "Working with Chronicle reporter Cindy Thomas, Assistant District Attorney Jill Bernhardt, and medical examiner Claire Washburn, Lindsay discovers that there is indeed a link. The victims were of different ages, lived in different locations, and were killed with different weapons. But each had a close relative in a particular profession, a profession that sends a chill through Lindsay's heart." The partners in the Women's Murder Club realize that this killer is after something unspeakable, something deeper than revenge, and that the next target could be one of them. They deduce where the killer is likely to strike next and bait a trap that can't be resisted. But if their calculation is wrong, the consequences will be lethal. And there will be no second chance.

After solving a particularly gruesome homicide investigation Detective Lindsay Boxer is promoted to Lieutenant. Although she is grateful for the promotion, she knows she would never have solved it without the help of her three good friends: Chronicle reporter Cindy Thomas, medical examiner Claire Washburn, and Assistant District Attorney Jill Bernhardt. This informal group, known as the women's murder club, still meets from time to time as a support cell for each other.

When Lindsay starts another high profile homicide investigation, being a member of the club becomes very dangerous because the perpetrator marks some of them as his victims. He also kills a young black girl in front of a church, a older black woman in a laundry basement, and a black police officer. The two dead black females are related to police on the force. Lindsay and her superiors conclude that the killer has a grudge against the force. The only problem is they don't have a clue as to his identity.

I loved it! Kept me guessing about the killer the entire time, as well as things going on in the members of the Women's Murder Club personal lives!

The Women's Murder Club is back. A brilliantly diabolical killer is murdering people from every walk of life. The deaths seem unrelated but police homicide inspector Lindsay Boxer senses a connection and together with medical examiner Claire, assistant D.A. Jill, and Chronical reporter Cindy, finds a link that sends a chill through the entire nation.

I am reading the last in the series of the Womens Murder Club and they have all been enjoyable and an easy read.

Excellent read! I now own the hardcover copy so I don\'t need the paperback. I highly recommend this series by James Patterson.
