Fast read, but beware...it is a tearjerker! I think I will go back to my mystery/thrillers for awhile. One good cry like that can last you for awhile! *smile*

Same old stuff from Nicholas Sparks. Sappy love story, he must crank these out in an afternoon.

When her husband leaves her for a younger woman, Adrienne Willis is thrust into a devastating midlife crisis. Suddenly abandoned at 45, she reels without purpose. Lacking any clear plan, she accepts a friend's invitation and flees for a weekend to the small coastal town of Rodanthe, North Carolina. Located near the northern tip of Hatteras Island, this Outer Banks retreat seems well suited to be a quiet respite, but a brutal storm destroys any sense of sanctuary. Adrienne's stranding is complicated and relieved by the presence of Paul Flanner, a 54-year-old physician with his own shattered past. The author of A Bend in the Road and Message in a Bottle has once again delivered a twisting tale about human relationships.

Reeling with heartache after her husband abandons her for a younger woman, Adrienne Willis flees to the small coastal town of Rodanthe, North Caroline, to tend a friend's inn. Here she hopes to find the tranquility she so desperately needs to rethink her life. But almost as soon as she gets there, a major storm is forecast and a guest named Dr. Paul Flanner arrives. At fifty-four, Paul has just sold his medical practice and is trying to escape his own shattered past. Now, with a fierce nor'easter closing in, two wounded people will turn to each other for comfort and in one weekend set in motion feelings that will resonate throughout the rest of their lives.

I'm not exactly sure what to say about this book. It was decent. I am still waiting to find the novel of Nicholas Sparks' that makes him a must-read author for me but this wasn't it. The story line was good, the characters likeable, but nothing really made me go "WOW". The ending was predictable, but that's not too surprising either.

This is another bittersweet novel that will make you cry. Nicholas Sparks found a formula that works--who can blame him for using it?

L really loved this book! I was reading it at the hospital where my Mom was having surgery and my Daughter picked it up and started reading it as well. When I was finished with it I gave it to her and she loved it as well.Great read!!!
Get the kleenex ready!!!! This book was truly a tear jerker. I loved it though, I only wish I had NEVER seen the movie. The most important part of the book to me was the relationship between mother and daughter and it was competely left out in te movie. In the book the only reasons the mother shares her story was because he daughter had just lost her husband and didn't want to go on living. She thought her mother could never understand the loss of a spouce because she was divorced from her father. Then her mom begins to tell her of a man she fell in love with and how she understand more than her daughter can ever imagine.

Lovely little weepy of a story. Finished the whole thing in one trans-Atlantic flight and enjoyed it thoroughly, although probably wouldn't go see the movie until it shows up on Lifetime TV.
Good book.

I usually get bored easily by books but this book was excellent! I was waiting for the movie since I hate to read but my daughter bought me this book and insisted that I read it. I am so glad that I did! The movie did not do the book justice in my opinion. The book was awesome but the movie was a total dissapointment to me.Once I got past the first couple of chapters this book kept me on the edge of my seat! If you like Nicholas Sparks books you will love this one!
I read this book in one day. I couldn't put it down. I love to read the book before I see the movie, the book is always so much better. This is a modern day love story....
A fast and easily read romance. The mother-daughter relationship portrayed helped to appreciate the female relationships in my life.
This book was captivating, the movie does not compare. Read the book, love the story, skip the movie.
Typical Nicholas Sparks in a good way.
Nice story.

This book is wonderfully simple. Sparks' style is clear, concise, and to the point. I'm usually not much for love stories, but this was a wonderful exception.
This well written book is a quick read and entertaining. However, since most people have probably seen the trailer for the movie, its pretty predictable. Its a very romantic story with a sad ending if you enjoy those heart wrenching tales. In my mind, it was ok, but I only read it because I thought the book would probably be better than the movie.
Never say never. Love will find you, especially when you are not looking for it. Very nice love story...with a Nicholas Sparks, with the ending leaving you in tears.
I read this book in 2 days, it was awesome!! Now I want to see the movie. Actually when I read this book I looked at the characters as if they were Richard Gere and Diane Lane. I would recommend reading this if you love a feel good romance!!

Of course being written by Nicholas Sparks it is a wonderful book. It is a tearjerker of sorts, though most of his books do tug at the heartstrings. It is also been produced into a motion picture due to be out in September of 2008.
Excellent book. Could not put it down!!

From Publishers Weekly
Sparks (A Bend in the Road, etc.) logs more miles on the winding high road of romance with the story of two middle-aged people who meet by chance in the small North Carolina coastal town of Rodanthe. The impassioned but doomed romance seems to owe much to Robert James Waller's The Bridges of Madison County.
Great book! Very quick read. Thoroughly enjoy Nicholas Sparks books!
