This was my 2nd book I've read from Katie MacAlister and it surely won't be the last! She writes in an amusing, entertaining way. I loved the story of the half-elf Sam and the Dark One Paen she falls in love with.

Good read with a few twists on the vamp plots. Sexy vamp hero teams up with half-elf Samantha to find a relic which will save his mother's life. Laughs, thrills and you can try to figure out who is working with, or against, who.

I bit of brain candy for your summer vacation. A shallow read, but with MacAlister's usual humor.

A nice weekend read about a Scottish, kilt-wearing Vampire. What's not to love? ;-) Trademark Macalister humor and fun.

Oh, I love this book. It made me laugh, and cry. It was very well written and it has all kinds of fairy's, elf's, vampires, and demons in it to make it a little out of the ordinary.

The first book of this series is still my favorite. However, this one is my second favorite. Very funny.

An easy read. Only downside female lead is jumping on her male counterpart constantly. Could use a little less jumping.

Katie Mac can do no wrong! I appreciate that she involved more creatures from the Otherworld in this story than just vampires and demons. It gave the story a different sort of texture and pace.

Paen Scott is a Dark One: a vampire without a soul. And his mother is about to lose hers too if Paen can't repay a debt to a demon by finding a relic known as the Jilin God in five days.
Half-elf Samantha Cosse may have gotten kicked out of the Order of Diviners, but she's still good at finding things, which is why she just opened her own private investigation agency.
Paen is one of Sam's first clients and the only one to set her elf senses tingling, which makes it pretty much impossible to keep their relationship on a professional level. Sam is convinced that she is Paen's Beloved-the woman who can give him back his soul...whether he wants it or not.

If you like vampires and want a modern day twist on things then you will enjoy Macalister's book. Heroine and half elf, Samantha Cosse, helps vampire Paen Scott and during the course of things things heat up. This is a great book and makes you want to go out and buy more of Macalister's books!

Another fun paranormal romance. A half-elf private investigator falls for a Scottish vampire - because the only thing hotter than Sean Connery in a kilt is a vampire in one...

Wow! What a H-O-T book. Romance between a male vampire and a half elf/human female. Very interesting. Great writing and plot, although it got to be a little much at the end with the demons and sun gods and stuff, but definitely not to be missed! This author also writes great young adult novels under the name Katie Maxwell.

PAEN SCOTT IS A DARK ONE AND SAMANTHA IS HALF-ELF.PAEN IS ONE OF SAM'S FRIST'S CLIENTS AND THE ONLY ONE TO SET HER ELF SENSES TINGLING,WHICH MAKES IT PRETTY MUCH IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP THIER RELATIONSHIP ON A PROFESSIONAL LEVEL. AM T. (Am) reviewed on 6/15/2006...

This book seemed abit more choppy and some new magical stuff (nature of faeries, etc.) could have been expanded upon. Heroin was also abit too accepting of new things at face value.

Janet B. (janetlee) reviewed on 6/14/2006...

I love Katie MacAlister's Dark One series and with half-elf Samantha a whole new kind of Beloved is born!

Meghan G. (meghan1943) reviewed on 6/10/2006...

The most recent entry to MacAlister's Dark Ones series was not her best. All the elements were there, but they were not used. I enjoyed the consistency of MacAlister's witty writing, and humor, but I was dismayed at her rushed plot. Once again, this romance novel fell prone to need to put too many characters and details in too few pages. I loved how MacAlister finally brought more of the Otherworld in, but she failed to explain and adapt these new factors to her story.

There were some great scenes (Killer Butterflies!) in this book, I just wish the rest of the novel had lived up to them.

This is another of Katie MacAlister's wonderful stories only this time it involves more of the realm of fantasy. I like the way she worked everyone in and it looks to me that this might be the beginning of a series. A must read for Katie's Fans.

The newest Dark One vampire story from Katie MacAlister. Just as wonderful and funny as the others.

Stephanie D. (realizeworldpeace) reviewed on 5/6/2006...

Yet another delicious Dark One book by Katie Mac. Hilarious, touching, surprising... possibly her best one yet! Heroine is, um, bi-racial - maybe make that bi-species? She's half human, half sun-elf. Interesting match for a man who's all Dark One. Throw in a supermodel cousin (who just happens to be a flower-eating faery - but is in serious denial about it), a few denizens of Otherworld, and did I mention that the hero also happens to be Scottish? And that we get to see him in a kilt? What more could you want? Well, if you insist, he also has three brothers, equally dishy...
