Story centers around a suburban mom (Jessica Matthews) who gets mauled by a hairy creature as she takes out the trash. She wakes up later to find that the creature nearly killed her and so she had to be Turned into a vampire. Thusly she discovers a whole world she didn't know existed that has vampires, wolf shapshifters, and humans working together, but they also have enemies. Starts off interesting, but about third or halfway through begins feel repetitive. Lots of mom jokes and snarking off at vampires. Jessica may be the soul mate of one of the oldest vampires, and has a "dilemma" over whether she should sleep with him (there is a lot of lusting and description of how gorgeous he is - on about the eyes and accent and he uses a lot of Gaelic), thus be married to him for 100 years, and also worries about how this could affect her children. A lightly plotted story, pretty quick, fun-type romance read. Has a MaryJanice Davidson air, not quite as good, but I'll give this author another chance.

This was such a good book - I couldn't stop reading, yet I didn't want it to end. As soon as I finished I immediately bought the sequel. If you like your paranormal romance more light-hearted and even funny, this is a book for you.

A pleasure to read, had me cracking up laughing. A modern day mom is turned into a vampire. Those chocolate cravings just don't disappear, & eating food is not an option. Oh but her body has been transformed into a thing of beauty. She meets Patrick, a vampire who claims to be her true love. Then there is a battle of the good vampires against the bad vampires. Quick easy read.

Funny, light-hearted take on the vampire genre with a healthy dose of "hot & heavy" thrown in. Some of that could have been left out and the plot would have been just as good but who cares, right? This one kept me entertained, made me giggle a couple of times, and convinced me to read the sequel (due out in Jumy 2007.) Enjoy!

Jessica Matthews’ Wednesday night started out typically enough, until she discovered that her 14 year old son Bryan had conveniently forgotten to take the household trash to the curb before going to bed at 10pm. So, grumbling to herself about irresponsibility, Jessica finds herself hauling the two huge trash bins herself, when a huge creature knocks her down, tears her throat open, and sucks the blood from her body until she dies. She awakes in a sterile room, sucking the femoral artery of an absolutely gorgeous, entirely nude man. Thus begins Jessica’s new life - her afterlife.

Jessica of course has a lot to learn about her new existence. The Consortium plans to take over Broken Heart, Oklahoma, and they need her cooperation and assistance, but she still has some emotional baggage from her living life that needs to be dealt with as well. Add a couple of German werewolves, a rogue lycan, dead bodies popping up all over town, sizzling sexual encounters, and a centuries-old prophesy involving the ring Jessica inherited from her grandmother, and you have the basis for an unusually good story.

When I first picked up this book, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. But Jessica’s practical, down-to earth manner and her rapier wit made me feel like I was reading about a good friend from the very beginning. I found myself having a lot of trouble putting this book down once I started reading it, and now I am looking forward to reading the next four books in Michelle Bardsley’s Broken Heart Vampires series!

I've read all the books in this series. It is an amazing series. Everyone of these books was SO funny. I laughed the very first page and it just kept getting better and better. I highly recommend this!

It starts with a single mom having a conversation with her teenaged son we've all had either with our kids or our parents. She ends up taking out the trash for her son (his chore, the source of the argument)...and so ends one life and begins another.

Good book, but a warning: This is in the first person perspective...(so you only get the heroine's point of view)
I usually don't read those, in fact I avoid them altogether, but right from the start this drew me in...most likely the hot Irish vampires were what caught my attention...well them and their hot lycan cohorts:-)

I like the main characters -both were amusing, strong characters though I'm not too fond of some of the secondary ones...thankfully we don't here too much about any of them.
I will say that despite some weak moments in the plot, and a sort of abrupt ending, this was a quick, fun read, with no real dark angsty moments...but a light funny one instead...and I loved the Gaelic phrases thrown in!
Definitely looking forward to reading more from Michele Bardsley!

This was a great read...funny, sexy, and full of fast-paced action. And on top of it all, there were several supporting characters that I'd love to see get their own stories.

This is quite a different kind of vampire book and story. I liked it and will be reading more of the series, just to see what else the author comes up with, but I don't consider it a keeper.

This def. has a MJD influence - same type of humor & lead character.
She is sarcastic, cute, meets her soul mate right off the bat & has to battle a bad guy named Ron.

The biggest difference between this book & the Undead books is this new vampire is a mom of two.

It was a quick yet enjoyable read. I won't say it will be taking a permanent spot on the shelf next to my Undead books, but I will absolutely read the next one in the series.

So far, the main deterrent for this one was the oodles of sex which meant a bit of skimming. I don't mind a sex scene or two but these dragged on a bit too long for my taste.

Solid 3.5 stars for me.

The humor of Charlaine Harris with the raunchy sex of mild Laurell K. Hamilton. Silly, fluffy little tub read, the literary equivalent of junk food. Fun, but of absolutely no nutritional value. A little more graphic in the sex department than I like, but all vamp fiction that isn't bloody horror seems to be going this way…

GREAT book! Gotta read more this particular author! Must read if you're into paranormal books. ****
Does drinking blood make me a bad mother????

BROKEN HEART is the city with the highest rate of divorce and the highest percentage of single parents in Oklahoma. And I, Jessica Matthews, have been a member of that club ever since my husband dumped me for his twenty-something secretary and then had the gall to die in a car accident.

Now I'm not just a single mother trying to make ends meet in this crazy world...I'm also a vampire. One minute I was taking out the garbage, the next I awoke sucking on the thigh of superhot vampire Patrick O'Halloran.

But though my stretch marks have disappeared and my vision has improved, I can't rest until the thing that did this to me is caught. My kids' future is at stake...as is my sex life. Once a vampire does the dirty deed, it hitches her to the object of her affection for at least 100 years. I just don't know if I'm ready for that kind of commitment...

Does drinking blood make me a bad mother? A very different vampire tale. About a single mother trying to raise her children in this crazy world... And I'm also a vampire.

It is a hot and sexy read.

Quirky heroine who awakes after taking out the garbage to find herself sucking on the thigh of superhot vamp Patrick O'Halloran. Now she's a single mom and a vamp. Funny take on an old plot...very enjoyable.

Jane K. (JDay) reviewed on 3/5/2007...

I really liked this one: trying to make "normal" out of what is suddenly, unexpectedly para-normal. We're talking really small town, single parents turned vampires...and (for instance) getting the children used to switching daylight activities for night. As our heroine says, "It's hard enough getting your kids to listen to you when you're alive..." Great monsters - some very funny stuff - and hot sex with Patrick-the-vampire-chief.

This is a light-hearted look at life as a new Vamp. It falls into the otherworld romance but is still fun. Fans of Charlaine Harris and others will enjoy this.

THIS IS A VERY GOOD READ. IT IS A CONTEMPORARY VAMPIRELOVE STORY WITH A LITTLE MYSTERY AND FABLES WOVEN IN. I REALLY ENJOYED IT. IT REMINDS ME OF KATIE MACALISTERS BOOKS.
