A wonderful Irish love story rooted in the rugged landscape of County Clare. It is impossible for the reader to not fall in love with the scenery as well as the two main characters, Maggie and Rogan.

The first book in Roberts breathtaking trilogy. Set in western Ireland, the lives and loves of the Concannon sisters - modern women of ambition and talent. A very easy read, hated for it to end. Excellent!

Ever since travelling to Ireland, I love books with Irish settings. I love books that I can get lost in and I was able to do that with this one.

Another GREAT trilogy from Nora Roberts. I loved it!

The first in a projected trilogy about the lives of three Irish sisters, Born in Fire gets the series off to a fine start, telling the story of talented glass-artist Maggie Concannon's contentious relationship with Dublin gallery owner Rogan Sweeney. Country-dwelling Maggie is otherworldly, prickly and outspoken, while Rogan is an urban sophisticate; nevertheless, the attraction that springs up between this unlikely pair is both believable and compelling, thanks to Roberts's (Private Scandals) skillful character development. Lacking melodramatic overtones or strange twists of fate, the plot may seem less than exciting, but the conflicts Maggie and Rogan face are refreshingly realistic and the characters themselves, well-rounded and likable, will keep readers engaged.

Nora Roberts did it again.Maggie Concannon, a glassmaker. Rogan Sweeney, a gallary owner helps her build a lucrative business, Then things between them begin to happen.....

The story of how Maggie Concannon overcame her struggles and became her own woman, Born in Fire is a wonderful story of ambition and love. Maggie is the fiery redheaded older daughter of Maeve and Tom Concannon and isn't afraid to show her temper. She grows up in a home where she is loved by her father but scorned by her mother. Will she get her revenge or show kindness in return?

Susan L. (mrschadt) reviewed on 11/24/2006...

Spite fire Maggie Concannon steps out of the flames from her furnance and lays down her metal heating rods to shape glass and butts heads with Rogan Sweeney who won't take no for an answer.

If you read Nora Roberts than you have to read the first book in the fire and ice serious you won't be let down.

Book 1 of the Irish Trilogy. Interesting enough characters to get me to pick up the sequel.

Debbie R. (Ricedreamer) reviewed on 7/11/2006...

Nora Roberts is a wonderful storyteller. This is the first in a trilogy, which should definitely be read together and in order. The second book is called, "Born in Ice" and the third is called "Born in Shame". The three books are the stories of three sisters, each born in a different part of their parent's lives. I absolutely love it when I get to experience different people in a family, whose lives I'm already familiar with from another story.

This first book tells the story of the oldest sister, whose great love in life is glassblowing. She is pursued by and finally falls for a curator who loves her work before he ever meets her.

Born in Fire highlights Margaret Mary Concannon, the eldest sister, a glass artist with an independent streak as fierce as her volatile temper. She is a woman who is both comforted and torn apart by family, and whose ambitions will lead her to discover herself and her talents. Hand blowing glass is a difficult and exacting art, and while she may produce the delicate and fragile, Maggie is a strong opinated woman, a Clare woman, with all the turbulence of that fascinating west country. Her relationship with sophisticated Dublin gallery owner, Rogan Sweeney, won't be peaceful.

This is the first book of Roberts BORN IN trilogy.

I loved Maggie and I loved Rogan. I'm getting to know Roberts' writing and what to expect of it, now. I have learned to wait for it. It builds slowly but the foundation is worth the waiting. The side stories were beautiful as well. The secondary characters are as deep and real as as the main characters. I rate this one a A- .

It was intriguing and kept you a little on the edge of your seat to see what Nora Roberts was going to do with the characters. It is a love story but it also has intrigue and suspence in it. Most people think the world of their children but this mother doesn't. she loves her in her own way, but they both need more., so enjoy reading it.
