This was one of my favorites from Luanne Rice about friendships, love, and lessons learned. This is the second book in a series of two.

Continues the story started in Summer's Child.
Very sweet story, and I enjoyed reading the rest of the story about the characters in her previous book.

In Connecticut, Lily learns that Maeve has carbon monoxide poisoning. She believes Edward tried to murder her grandmother, hoping to bring Lily home. Edward finds Rose in spite of Liam and Lily's attempt to hide her. When Edward and Lily meet, he threatens her, saying she has no idea what will happen next. His threats are especially terrifying since Rose has suspected him of being a serial killer.

This sensitively written work of women’s fiction is a direct follow-up to SUMMER’S CHILD. Nine years ago, heavily pregnant Mara Jameson escaped her abusive husband, Edward, by faking her death and changing her name to Lily Malone. Despite the health problems of her daughter ,Rose, Mara/Lily has found a measure of happiness in Nova Scotia with another man, one-armed oceanographer Liam Neill. But now her carefully constructed new life is threatened. Lily’s beloved grandmother is seriously ill, impelling Lily’s return to her Connecticut hometown...and to a confrontation with Edward, who, alerted that his wife and child are still alive, becomes determined to gain custody of Rose

Probably the best of any of her books, and I've read them all. A continuation of the story and characters introduced in Summer's Child.

Has you rooting for good over evil.

This book is really book two of Summer's Child. I highly recommned you read that book first or you will have no idea what is going on. This book should have been in the first book and read as one book. Please order Summer's Child first. I would have posted that book but it fell apart. The glue used to keep the pages together failded. Great book and nice easy reading.

This is an incredible book! I loved this book and the book that this one followed- Summer's Child. Luanne Rice just pulls you into the lives of her characters so well that you find yourself almost caring for them. That's the sign of a truely incredible author. I have read three books by Luanne Rice now but I think I would recommend anything that she's written.

SUMMER OF ROSES is the perfect sequel to last year's SUMMER'S CHILD. The relationships that began in that first book--that between Lily and Liam; the health of young Rose; the fleeing of Marisa and her daughter, Jessica; the culmination of former detective Patrick's search for Maura; the ending health crisis of Maeve; the horrors rendered by abuser Edward Hunter--are all beautifully brought to a conclusion.

I loved SUMMER'S CHILD, but was sometimes irritated at the slow pace of the storyline starring Liam and Lily. Although the abuse she'd suffered at the hands of her first husband, Edward, forced the progression to be a slow one, nine years is a really long time!

Thankfully, things move faster in SUMMER OF ROSES, and I treasured each scene as it unfolded. Although the book can stand alone, I highly recommend reading SUMMER'S CHILD first, because the background information you'll gain on each character will make you appreciate this current offering even more.

The New York Times bestselling author of Dance With Me and Beach Girls revisits characters from Summer's Child in this examination of the emotional fallout of battered woman syndrome. When Mara Jameson thinks about her wedding, she painfully and vividly recalls her betrothed, Edward Hunter, the Harvard rugby player with a "blank yet somehow charged" stare. Mara ran away after Edward began abusing her and shortly before she had her daughter, Rose. Now, nine years later, Mara's living as Lily Malone in an isolated cottage near Cape Hawk, Nova Scotia, with Liam Neill, a member of the village's pre-eminent family. When Mara-cum-Lily learns Maeve Jameson, her grandmother, is comatose after suffering an undiagnosed "neurological event," she, believing Edward was involved, comes out of hiding to try to save her. Edward, ever the epitome of evil, soon hears the news of Lily's return and welcomes her back with an incendiary custody battle. Back in Cape Hawk, Lily's best friend Marisa, also a battered wife, longs to be reunited with her estranged sister in the Fallen Angels, their college fiddle and song duo. Prolific romance novelist Rice handles the complex plot with aplomb so all her likable characters win in the end and Edward, naturally, gets his comeuppance.

I couldn't put this book down. I suggest reading Summers Child by Rice before this one. It is very good story line about an abused woman who had the courage to leave her situation and learn how to trust people again, then take her life back. I have never read any bad by Luanne Rice.
