I'm going to review the first four books of this series as a "set" since they contain a world story arc that carries through them and most readers will prefer to have all four on hand before starting the series. This is the first book in the Riley Jenson Guardian series, which are paranormal romances set in Melbourne, Australia. Arthur does an excellent job of balancing the paranormal and the romance elements of the story and, while the moon cycle sexual responses of the werewolves echo a bit of LKH's "ardeur", Arthur pulls it off much more smoothly. The paranormal elements are well thought out with a few nice twists to standard mythos. Characters are well drawn, though a bit unbelievably perfect at times. Each book does have a standalone plot with a satisfying conclusion, but as I mentioned, there is a "world arc" that carries through all four books.

This was a good mix of paranormal mystery and romance. At times I worried that Riley's urges would hinder her, but she was able to use them to her advantage or resist them when she needed to. I also liked many of the characters, specifically Riley, Quinn, Rhoan, Jack and Liander. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, Kissing Sin.

When I first started this book I was wondering if it was going to be worth my while. It started out with a government agency that worked with non-humans. The book I read right before was "White Witch Black Curse" and it also had that element. It was a smooth and easy read though and the back story of twin wolves born into a pack that kicked them out for being half breeds caught my interest. Soon after something else caught my interest and had me blushing in the night in my bed with my little book like hoping my husband would not wake up to see my dirty delight. It was sexual to say the least and fed my dark desires very well. Though it had a great deal to do with sex, that alone did not carry the book. The plot was interesting and twisted just right and though in the end it left me wanting, but satisfied. The book at the end told of the next 3 in this series and so I have hope that more dirty nights to come. The con I have for this book is that it did not give much information about the world and how the un-humans came out of the closet or when. It was futuristic and did not give a good time line. I hope the other books fill it in more. In the end I have found a new writer to love and that is not easy!

This action packed series is a must read for any Anita Blake fans out there. Riley Jenson is bringing her own edge to the world of vampire/werewolves.

Between Riley and her twin brother (Rhoan)there seems to be some kind of "scary-type" danger around every corner. How they manage to get out of all this trouble can be scary or humerous. She resists her boss' invitation to become a full-time warrior, yet does the work anyway.
The characters in this book feel like friends after reading and one doesn't quite want to let them go...until the next book!

One suggestion before starting this book...buy the WHOLE series! It was fantastic. For lovers of paranormal/suspense romance w/ sizzling action. This is the series for you.

First in the Riley Jenson Guardian Novel Series..

A rare hybrid of vampire and werewolf, Riley Jenson is just trying to find her place in the world. And it's not always easy for a woman like herself, especially when her work -- for an organization created to police the supernatural races -- brings her face-to-face with some of the sexiest men imaginable. More werewolf than vampire, Riley is vulnerable to the moon heat: the phase when her need to mate becomes all-consuming. But when her twin brother Rhoan is taken hostage. Riley must stay focused -- even when an extremely seductive, deliciously naked, and very disoriented vampire shows up on her doorstep looking for Rhoan. Now she'll have to control her urges if she's going to find her brother..because the people who took Rhoan have another target in mind: Riley!

A good first entry into the half vamp/half werewolf genre. In the style of Kim Harrison.

this book was good but a little X rated at times

Judy B. (Hoody) reviewed on 10/14/2009...

Full Moon Rising is a fast paced story that kept me interested. I had a hard time putting it down as it never got boring. It is also very erotic and full of heated sex scenes. Since erotic books aren't normally my thing, I won't try and judge that part, I will just say that they are most defiantly steamy. This isn't just a "trashy novel"; however, it is a very good book with a great story.

This is a good book, the 1st of the series.I highly recommend this series.

Great story, fast paced. If you like a raunchy story with a strong, sexual female heroine, this is a good read.

I requested this book because I read reviews here on PBS and was very intrigued by the blurbs. I enjoyed the story and have requested the next book in the series. The premise is similar to other series I enjoy but it has twists that make for and enjoyably different read. If you are looking for a good series read, I think we have found one.

Katherine M. (TheSmartKat34) reviewed on 6/11/2009...

I found it very teedious! Way too much unemotional sex, with way to many people. I get wanting someone who is HOT, but not because you have no choice even if they are rapeing you. Nope this series isn't for me taht is for sure.
I like all my sex scenes to be willing and wanting, with at least a decent plot to go with it. This one sucked.

Denise H. (Lazeeladee) - GA reviewed on 1/27/2009...

I had to mark this book only 2 stars. It has too much sex and not enough story. It's quite a shame, as the author is very talented and has a lot of potential. Ms. Arthur, chill out on the sex a little and give us more story!

Lynn S. (lsuth) - Clay, NY reviewed on 11/18/2008...

First in the series. Not the best book I've read but it was interesting. I liked the fact that she is more than just a werewolf. I will try the next book in the series.

Amanda B. (ArmyWife4Life) reviewed on 5/4/2008...

Absolutely horrible. Way too much sex and too little plot. This book doesn't even compare to others like the Hollows series by Kim Harrisson.

I could have done without the constant reminder that the main character was a vampire/werewolf mix (I got it already!) but I liked the interaction and will most likely read the second book of the series.

The first in a series of four.
Riley Jenson is a gorgeous werewolf with a touch of vampire in her blood who works for an organization created to police the supernatural races. Since she is more wolf than vampire she is vulnerable to the moon heat and the need to mate becomes all consuming. When her twin brother is missing she must try to stay focused on finding him even when a gorgeous, naked vampire increases her need to mate as the moon approaches its fullness.

Ginger F. reviewed on 2/26/2007...

More of a paranormal thriller than my usual paranormal romance. I don't like my heroines to be as hard as Riley. It took me longer to read because I could put down. I do plan to get the rest of the series just because I'm caught up in the story now and I'm hoping Riley gets a little softer.

better enjoy reading about sex with a slight story line, that's all this is

Cyndi T. (Wildflower) reviewed on 2/8/2007...

Pointless read. Rutting Dhampires? Whatever. Takes gratuitous sex to a whole new level with a boring plot line. I had to trudge through this one.

Debbie C. (Froglover) reviewed on 2/1/2007...

What a great series this is going to be. Werewolves, vampires, half-breeds, clones and more. Characters are great and so is the story itself. Looking forward to the next.

Sarah L. (Dawa) reviewed on 1/31/2007...

First, be warned, this is NOT a romance novel. At least not in the traditional, nationally bestselling mold. It certainly bears resemblance to the current crop of paranormal romances, but it is more akin to Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake novels than to the vampire romances written by Christine Feehan or Sherrilyn Kennyon. I don't think I've ever read a book where, after the first third, the sex was boring. Situation after situation and it got very old very fast.

However, once you get past all that, it does have potential to be a very entertaining dark, urban fantasy. Just don't expect any romance.

Michelle K. (Nish) reviewed on 1/31/2007...

On the cover it says...half vampire, half werewolf, all trouble. As I enjoy vampire books, this was a must buy for me. It is #1 of 4 and I look forward to the others!

The first in a series of four books about Riley Jensen, Guardian (spy). She's a rare hybrid of vampire and werewold. More werewolf than vampire, Riley is vulnerable to the moon heat - the phase where her need to mate becomes all-consuming. This story starts off with her twin brother, Rhoan being taken hostage. The sex is very free in this book. The storyline isn't bad. This passed a pleasant afternoon in reading but I am not really that motivated to read the next three and find out what happens.
