In this, the final book of the Lioness Quartet, Alanna travels far beyond Tortall's borders in search of a legend in order to save the kingdom from a treacherous plot and claim her place by Jonathan's side. But the future rarely works out quite the way one expects and success always requires sacrifice.

A compelling conclusion to Alanna's story.

This was a satisfactory conclusion to a wonderful series. I had a hard time putting it down because I wanted to know how it all ended. Some of it was predictable due to all the foreshadowing, but that didn't make it any less enjoyable. Pierce has become one of my favorite authors and I'm looking forward to reading the Tricksters series next.

All of the Tortall books are great! This is one of the books about Alanna, in the Song of the Lioness series.

Description from Amazon.com:
Readers will be thrilled by this final episode of the Song of the Lioness quartet by Tamora Pierce (Random, pap. 1997). In this series that began with Alanna: The First Adventure (Atheneum, 1983), the lioness reaches the height of her power. As the first female knight in the mythical country of Tortall, Alanna sets out to find the powerful Dominion Jewel in the hope that she can save her war-torn nation from disaster. As always, Alanna is stunning in battle and wise in her deeds. It's no wonder she has many suitors vying for her hand in marriage. Can the lioness be tamed? Readers will be guessing right up to the exciting conclusion.

EXCELLENT! This is the best book in the series. This is action-packed from the first page. I particularly liked George, the Dragon, and especially Alanna. I'm sorry to see Alanna's adventures end but I think she returns as a back character in The Immortals series and also in the Trickster series.

Outstanding conclusion to the Song of the Lioness Quartet. I'm looking forward to following this up with the next set - The Immortals
