Pretty good. Surprise twist ending and a great lead-in to the next book. Mad Maxine Stuart, Storm, and Lou...they're partners in a supernatural detective agency and are searching for missing girls in an entire town held in thrall to a vampire...a vampire showing a more than friendly interest in Storm.

Vampire mystery, drama & the supernatural all rolled into one!

The idyllic town of Endover, New Hampshire, looks innocent. But below its surface a thirst and a desire both powerful and ancient boil fiercely. When two girls go missing, only one person can delve deep enough to find them--Maxine Stuart, a private investigator who has finally started to believe.
"Mad Maxie" understands why she was asked to help--no living mortal knows as much about the undead as she. But the dark force controlling Endover can see all, and will use Maxine's knowledge against her to strengthen his hold on the town. Not even the influence of Lou Malone, the man Maxie most desires, can convince her to abandon the crusade against a madman's yearning for power...and resurrected love.

This book was good, but not as enjoyable as the other ones in the series. I feel that the best one of all is Prince of Twilight.

Twenty six years old Maxine "Mad Maxie" Stuart and her partner Tempest "Stormy" Jones are moving from White Plains, New York to Maine to open a private investigative firm. Maxie cons her beloved retired cop forty-four years old Lou Malone into driving; she hopes to persuade Lou that they belong together professionally and personally, but the stubborn former cop feels she can do better than him.
The sleuths receive a call from a close friend who they have not seen in years. Jason Beck tells them that his sister and her friend are missing and last seen in Endover, New Hampshire. He fails to warn them that the Prince, a vampire, has the two teens and is using them as bait because he recognizes the picture of Stormy on a brochure announcing the new company. The Prince aided by local Sheriff Fieldner plans to regain the love he lost once he has converted Stormy and eliminating Maxie is a viable option with Lou ready to die to keep his beloved safe from the supernatural.

Maggie Shayne is my all-time favorite author and anything by her is an instant win.
Just like the other books in this series, I loved this one and could not put it down until I finished it. Somethings in this one made me shout 'It's about time!' but I won't spoil anything for those who haven't read it yet.
I highly recommend this series and while you can read each book separately, the events will make much more sense if you read them in order. If you like vampires with romance and action, this series is for you.

Confusing to keep them in order but this book comes right after Twilight Hunger, (this book)Blue Twilight, then Prince of Twilight and Embrace the Twilight.

From the cover - The idyllic town of Endover, NH, looks innocent. But below its surface a thirst and a desire both powerful and ancient boil freely. When two girls go missing, only one person can delve deep enough to find them - Maxin Stuart, a private investigator who has finally started to believe.
This was a quick, but enjoyable read. The main character is spunky and fun, and her pursual of both the paranormal and her man endear her to the reader. Not your normal "gothic" vampire book.

I love Maggie Shayne's books! This book, in order of the characters' lives, fits right after "Twilight Hunger" and before "Embrace the Twilight". "Mad Maxie" Stuart, private investigator, and her unsettled relationship with Lou Malone.

A continuation of the vampire novel Embrace the Twilight, this Maggie Shayne story centers on the seemingly idyllic town of Endover. When private investigators Maxine Stuart and Lou Malone go there to search for information on two missing girls, they find much more than they could have anticipated. A tense and compelling romance.

It was nice to finally get Max and Lou's story here. It was a bit different than the original WoTN books, but consistent in the way the series has been shaping up to this point.
I love that she is bringing in more characters than simply Vampire, Chosen and 'Bad Guys' it is really rounding out the world for me.
This book was well done, but I do wish for more interaction with the others (the original characters) but that is just a personal foible :)

If you haven't tried a Maggie Shayne book from the "Twilight" series...you should. If you love the paranormal genre you will love this series. Each book stands on it own but has an intricate storyline that runs through all the books. You will meet characters from past books and be introduced to character that eventually will have a story of their own. Definately worth the read!

Maxine, who recently started a paranormal private eye company with her best friend Storm, is called to help locate some missing girls. They find a town under vampire thrall and a bunch of tourist (all good looking women)who have gone missing and then turned up later back home with no memory of the time they were gone. As they hunt for the vampire responsible, Max is trying to convince a retired police officer to be more than a friend and Storm finds out that she's sharing her body with another soul.
