I first started this series when I was 11. It was facinating then... however, from a Christian standpoint, I don't really see that the series has so much meritt as I originally gave them. They ARE novels... and so many Christians act like the end of the world will be like this word for word, almost to a damaging extent. The fact is the truth does NOT lie between the covers of this series. The truth is that we cannot even fathom what God has in store, which is why I believe the Bible has been written in the way it has been. So many things in it are a mystery because we are only finite and cannot truly fathom what lies in the words. I, unlike most Christians, do not believe that the book of Revelation was meant to be taken literally, which is exactly what these books do.

They are harmless, intersting reads. However, they do not contain much moral merrit, which is surprising in a Christian novel.

This is probably one of the worst books I've ever read. From the beginning I knew what was going to happen, and half-way through the book the "climax" is given away before you get to the end. I really wanted to like this book, but at the end I just kept thinking I wasted my time.

As for the writing itself, the characters are standard cardboard cutouts, the dialogue is subpar, and the writing is dry.

This is the first book in the Left Behind Series; these books are great and highly addictive! Once you start, you'll want to read all of them! Tells the story of the world beginning with the rapture of Christians; focuses on those "left behind", specifically Rayford Steele, his daughter Chloe, Buck Williams, and new characters who are continuously introduced.

I decided to try it to see what it was about. I couldn't get into it, but know alot of others who really liked the books. I think it was the way it was written and not the story itself that I just didn't like.

I have read through this series more than once, and though the first book may not be thouroughly engaging, it is a good start to a wonderful series. You will become attatched to the characters and will cry with them, laugh with them, and feel with them. It is truly a magnificent story.

If you are looking for the "answer" to it all, you are looking in the wrong place. The authors of this series don't have God's mouth to their ears telling them exactly how the earth is going to end, etc.etc.etc., and finding the answer to prophecy, well, you might want to just put the book down and back away.

If, however, you are looking for an entertaining read based on Biblical scripture that will make you think twice before you keep that extra $5 the Wal-mart clerk handed you by mistake, then start reading now.

I don't claim to be a Bible scholar, but I do know what I've read and the authors do a great job basing this series on the Christian beliefs and Bible, and definitely had me on the edge of my seat.

I recommend this series.

I was a little hesitant to read these books as I didn't know what to expect. The more I read and heard about them, the more interested I became. Putting aside the backgrounds (and perhaps intentions) of the authors, I am hooked on this series. Religion and beliefs aside, this book remains to have a great 'what if' factor. I'm currently on the 3rd book in the series and sometimes have to pinch myself at all the similarities in what I'm reading and what's really happening in the world today.

Whether or not you believe in the Bible, Left Behind does make for an interesting tale of comfort through crisis (especially post 9/11), conspiracy, a father's relationship to his daughter, and how a newsman deals with removing his feelings to get to a story. The best way to read this series is as a fictional novel in which extraordinary events have happened, people will start to believe in religion. Details are taken out of the Book of Revelation and fiction is added to make it an enjoyable read. I enjoyed the book and the and the rest of the series intense action and feeling which makes them page turners.

I read this because I had heard such great reviews about this series. While it's an interesting concept, I just couldn't get into this book. I would say it was okay, but not all that great as I expected.

I loved this book! I am fascinated with the end times prophesies in the Bible, so this book naturally captivated me from page one. The book tends to sound a little preachy at times, and may irk adamant non-believers (although they might not be inclined to pick up this book anyway)

I found it to be a good read, and look forward to reading more in the series.

The original, very entertaining and full of scriptural prophecy. I recommend this book highly, as it opens pages of Revelations to those who have a hard time deciphering biblical liturgy.

Utter garbage. Based on theology that has been completely discredited. Read it only if you are interested in being part of the brainwashing being done on America by rich, white men interested in using religion to keep their position of power. True Christians should be appalled by the graphic violence and hate in this series.

Based on the apocalyptic prophesies of the Book of Revelation, this book tells the harrowing story of commercial airlines pilot Captain Rayford Steele, a wayward Christian who is left behind on earth following the end of the world. The first of 12 books in an astoundingly successful series of Christian action novels shows Rayford's gradual climb to self-awareness and repentance and introduces the Antichrist's seven-year reign of terror. LEFT BEHIND held a spot on the Publishers Weekly trade paperback best-seller list for 22 weeks.

On a flight from Chicago to London, several passengers aboard Capt. Rayford Steele's plane suddenly and mysteriously disappear. When Steele radios to London to report the situation, he discovers that the incident on his plane is not an isolated phenomenon but a worldwide occurrence. As Steele begins his search for answers, he learns that the Christ has come to take the faithful with Him in preparation for the coming apocalyptic battle between good and evil and that those who have been left behind must face seven dark and chaotic years in which they must decide to join the forces of Christ or the forces of Anti-Christ. Jenkins, writer-in-residence at Moody Press, and LaHaye (A Nation Without a Conscience, Tyndale, 1994) have written a gripping thriller that captures the anxiety and fear that interpretations of Revelation often inspire.

This is the book that started off the series, and the concept for a TV show in the fall of '06 (which I'm sure won't be half as good as the book).

It's a Christian thriller- prophesy based fiction, a juiced-up morality tale. Thought provoking and very entertaining!

Piloting his 747, Rayford Steele is musing about his wife Irene's irritating religiosity and contemplating the charms of his "drop-dead gorgeous" flight attendant, Hattie. First Irene was into Amway, then Tupperware, and now it's the Rapture of the Saints--the scary last story in the Bible in which Christians are swept to heaven and unbelievers are left behind to endure the Antichrist's Tribulation. Steele believes he'll put the plane on autopilot and go visit Hattie. But Hattie's in a panic: some of the passengers have disappeared! The Rapture has happened, abruptly driverless cars are crashing all over, and the slick, sinister Romanian Nicolae Carpathia plans to use the UN to establish one world government and religion. Resembling "a young Robert Redford" and silver-tongued in nine languages, Carpathia is named People's "Sexiest Man Alive." (This reviewer, a former People writer, finds this plot twist plausible.) Meanwhile, Steele teams up with Buck Williams, a buck-the-system newshound, to form the Tribulation Force, an underground of left-behind penitents battling the Antichrist.

This is a book that is marketed to all and so it is a pretty easy read. Not the best book I have ever read but not the worst. It has a pretty even writing style that semi-hides the fact that they want you to become a born again Christian. But what else would you expect from a book that is about the last days of Earth?
