In this 3rd book of the series No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, Precious Ramotswe and her assistant solve mysteries brought to them by an important Government Man, and a beauty queen event organizer. In addition, after moving her business into the Tlokweng Road Speedy Motors owned by her fiance, she discovers that Mr.J.L.B. Matekoni has some personal problems that are affecting his business. Again, these lighthearted mysteries are a joy to read and I look forward to No. 4.

One of a series under the umbrella of "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency".
Delightful tales of a makeshift detective agency in Botswana Africa which is run by two native ladies who solve all sorts of mysteries while trying to maintain their personal lives. Very much worth the read. "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" is the first book in the series of six.Funny, endearing and very much worth the read. "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" is the first book in the series of six. I have posted in addition to the first book and this one" "The Kalahari Typing School For Men" and "Tears Of The Giraffe"

Another delightful cozy light mystery with Mma Ramotswe as Botswana's "Miss Marple" in charge of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency and her helper Mma Makutsi and her fiance, Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni-owner of the best authomobile repair in Botswana. Full of light humor and warm characters with simple wisdom.

I like the insights into human nature stated very succintly by the No. 1 Ladies Detective. In this book, there were three interesting mysteries for her and her assistant to solve, plus some personal issues to be resolved. Again, very absorbing.

A quick and easy read, seemingly simple prose but sometimes pretty deep insights into humanity and relationships. Great series (part of "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" books by McCall Smith)!

Once more we meet the characters so finely drawn in the previous books. This one focuses on Mma Ramotswe's quest to find the most moral of the finalists of the "Miss Beauty and Integrity" contest. It's another story full of characters you feel you know personally, and it's wonderful.

This is a captivating series about Botswana and its only detective, Precious Ramotswe. The author paints a richly detailed picture of both the country and the characters through their personal lives and Mma Ramotswe's cases, and this is a breezy, engaging read.

This book was good, a bit slow at times....it is number 3 in the series and I didn't start with the first book, so found it diffiult to follow. Would be lovely for someone interested in the series.

Colleen H. (Dove) - Detroit, MI reviewed on 1/18/2006...

The #1 Ladies Detective Agency is set in Botswana, where Mma Ramotswe has opened the first woman owned detective agency. It is knowing human nature that allows Mma Ramotswe to solve her cases. This is a down to earth book, that allows you to think you could actually do the same thing she is doing. Very believable characters. I have enjoyed each of the books in the seies so far.

The third in Alexander McCall Smith's novel, better known as the "Miss Marple of Botswana:
Precious Ramotswe is the founder and owner of Botwana's only detective agency for the "concerns of both ladies and others". Her stories are clever and comical, and it is easy to see that life is the same all over the world.
