Comments on Book Donations to Broad Acres Elementary - Silver Spring, MD

Congratulations on turning your school around. All children should have books in their lives, so I'm happy to contribute to this project.

I am very happy to contribute to your school! I was drawn to your school's history, and would love to contribute even after the fundraiser is over. I don't have children of my own, so is it all right if I adopt all of you? :-) Books are the gateway to the world without leaving your chair. We all love adventures, don't we? Sincerely Yours, KZ Ellis in El Paso, Texas

Michael, I am so glad I was able to connect your school and paperbackswap.com to help your students. As an educator, I know the difference books can make in a child's life. I see it daily through my own children, who both have a love of reading and learning. May your students benefit greatly through the generousity of the communtiy here at paperbackswap.com.

If you can, please let us know some of the titles that your school receives and how you've enjoyed them!

As a former school librarian, I love the idea! Good luck! Wish I could be there to help organize them for you.

I began my website, www.teensreadtoo.com, in March 2006 because I believe in the power of books to create success in our children. Thank you, PBS, for furthering this belief. This is an amazing project, and I am honored and privileged to be able to donate credits to Broad Acres Elementary School.

Okay what do you mean by 32% of our students are English language learners? Aren't all elementary school students still learning English and Grammar? I don't understand.

Congrats on turning your school around. I know that wasn't easy. I hope that you are able to use these books to make a difference - to let those kids have their own books - a lot of people underestimate the power that children get from having their own books. Hope that everything continues going well!

To Doug (who asked "Okay what do you mean by 32% of our students are English language learners? Aren't all elementary school students still learning English and Grammar? I don't understand."): I think this means that for 32% of the students, English is not their native/first language - that those students are being introduced to the English language, and not merely (as native English-speaking elementary students are) perfecting their proficiency.
