Linwood Elementary School students in Witchita, Kansas

are ready for new books!

Linwood Elementary has an enrollment of 525 students with  high poverty/high minority.   We recently made AYP (annual yearly progress) standards on both reading and math and met State Standard of Excellence for the first time.  We are located in “inner-city” Wichita.  Thank you for your book donations, PaperBackSwap members!

Linwood Elementary Principal

Our school has so many kids that don’t have the opportunity to have books at home due to high mobility, low income, and lack of additional resources.  As an educator, if we can give a child anything it should be a book.  A book tells a life time story and provides a child with a resource that is endless.  Books are treasures and they would be treasured by every student in our Linwood community.  Thank you for giving us this opportunity to share the love of reading to our children, here at Linwood.

 Sincerely,

Jill Mayfield, Reading Resource/Library Media Specialist,  Linwood Elementary

I am a teacher at Linwood Elementary School in Wichita, Kansas.  We have a diverse population of students, many of them are children of poverty. They have very limited resources in which to buy books of their own.  Many are not able to go to the public library either.  The books that would be provided by your organization will be such a blessing to our students. They can have their very own books that they can read and treasure.

Reading is such a big foundation for future success and having the resources to practice and improve their reading skills is essential for our students. Thank you so much for this opportunity for our students.  We appreciate it so much and can hardly wait to see our first books arrive.

Reading about this just makes my heart sing with joy. My daughter attends this school and I was the one to contact the school about participating in the program. My daughter is only 6 years old and is already reading 4th grade level books and she comes home every day excited about books! Thank you so much PBS members! I am forever grateful for you to encourage these children to read and dream!
