Paperbackswap.com Gives Books To Three HCPS Elementary Schools

Henderson County Public Schools (Website) - 1/7/2010 by Henderson County Public Schools
PaperBackSwap.com, based in Atlanta GA, donated over 3500 books to be divided between three Henderson County Public Schools – Clear Creek Elementary, Dana Elementary, and Upward Elementary. The gift included over 3000 gently used books that will be placed into the teachers’ classroom libraries so that students will have direct access to them. Additionally, PaperBackSwap ordered and shipped 500 brand new books to be distributed at the schools. The books were delivered to the schools on December.

“We are very pleased with our club members' response to this program - they obviously feel strongly about the education of children in America. Access to books is crucial to foster a child's love of reading, so the books our members have donated will have a big impact on these kids' lives. We hope to be able to continue this program and help more needy schools all over the country,” said Richard Pickering, President of PaperBackSwap.com.

PaperBackSwap (PBS) is a free online book club. People join PBS by posting books in good condition on their bookshelf on the PBS website. Two startup credits are given by PBS to start the member’s swapping. Credits are earned by sending out books to other members. Any available paperback or hardcover book may be ordered for one credit. Complete information about the online book club is available at www.paperbackswap.com.

PBS began the School Donation Program, Books for Schools, to provide books for students because of the company’s belief in the power of reading and the power of giving. The schools selected to participate in the Books for Schools are based on need of the students. PBS club members who wanted to participate in the program selected a school and donated their unused credits to purchase a book for the school. For each unused credit donated by a member of PBS, PaperBackSwap and supporting organizations provided an additional book, giving classrooms/libraries two books for each credit donated.
