The biography of an older woman who was the mistress of the novelist Thomas Wolfe (Look Homeward, Angel/ Of Time and the River/ You Can't Go Home Again). Carole Klein, who wrote it, had access to the unpublished correspondence of Wolfe and Aline Bernstein.

From the jacket: Aline Bernstein became notorious because of her eight-year liaison with Thomas Wolfe, which began on his twenty-fifth birthday, when she was already forty-five... [Klein] gives us here a wonderfully attractive heroine and a biography filled with color, glamour, love, heartbreak, and, above all, lust for life.
