Anita Brookner brings about different faces of humanity and she focuses on one thing in this book: obsession. A story of one man's obsession with a woman whom he loved but got burned by.

Knowing the thoughts and tribulations of a man's mind during the phases of love and heart break, I must say this novel captures it all.

If you come out of this book with a troubled mind, know that the writer has succeeded in stirring some deep seated emotions in you. A great read.
