I enjoyed this book immensely. While not exactly the story of her growing out of being just the daughter of Frank Zappa, there are obvious overtones of that particular back story here, and there are also clear parallels of how America eventually comes to grips with her own specific identity amid the chaos that had been her life and the island of serenity Moon Unit has discovered for herself. Bravo. Have to say also that her comments on the publication have got me curious about how the United Kingdom edition might differ from this one....

True to the vibe a Zappa name gives, Moon Unit has written a hilarious, bone honest novel loosely based on her experience as Frank's daughter...tough to part with, but it is time for this girl to move on. Enjoy!

A little slow and tedious at first, but as a fan of Frank Zappa, I felt I owed it to the author to stick it out. And I'm glad I did, in spite of the "chick lit" vibe I got when I began reading. The story was a funny, sad, and just plain entertaining journey into the crazy, mixed-up world of America Throne, daughter of a genius.

It'd be easy to say that this is fiction based on Moon's own life, but isn't all fiction based on someone's life to an extent?
