I spotted this book within the past year at Borders, so it's a fairly recent publication. I was in there tonight hoping to come across it in paperback, but of course I don't have the name or title.

It was a non-fiction book by an American man who spent a long time trying to track down his extended family, who were all Jews in Europe and most of whom died in the Holocaust. He found some surviving cousins in eastern Europe and traveled to visit them at the end of the book, I believe. The book opens with him recalling how family get-togethers would often end with people crying over lost family members, when he was a child.

It was a big thick book, and I flipped through it several times but didn't want to buy it in hardcover. Does it ring a bell with anyone? Borders had it out in their new non-fiction section for a long time, so I assume it was a bestseller.

That does not sound familiar to me at all, but did you ask any of the Borders employees?  They tend to know their books very well, and can often lead you right to the book.

In fact, I was in a Borders yesterday to get a specific book, couldn't remember the author, the name of the book, what the cover looked like, or even what it was about, but the guy I talked to knew enough about the books they've had on display recently that he was able to help me find the book based on me telling him some of the other books I remembered seeing near it.

So, if nobody else can help you, I'd highly recommend trying that.  GOOD LUCK!

Janelle, is this it?

The Lost: A Search for Six of Six Million Author: Daniel Mendelsohn

If it is, it is now available in paperback!

Caryn, I think that's it! Thanks bunches!

And Tami, I seriously almost flagged someone down to ask them about the book, but they were understaffed that night and the few people there were a little surly. I could just see the look I'd get, LOL. Next time I'll ask, though!

Janelle, I've read it and it's an awesome book!  I liked it so much, it's in my permanent collection.
