This is both a great lovers-reunion story and a tender childhood romance. Also a rich girl loves poor boy story. The main part of the action takes place in Civil War Memphis, TN, with a long flashback to the protagonists' teenage romance. Mary Ellen Preble and Clayton Knight are childhood friends that fall in love as teenagers; her family separates them - each thinks the other has betrayed their love. Thus when they reunite years later, they're determined not to love each other again. Steamy, intense love scenes; gets a little corny toward the end, but sweet.
