This is the 2nd best series I've ever read!! (First being Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series). These books MUST be read in the correct order: Beyond, To Tame, The Touch, Kiss, Dark and the Immortal. Spell is yet to come out in paperback. Enjoy!!!!

I love historical romances - especially those featuring pirates, knights, and highlanders - so I was excited to discover Karen Marie Moning's "Highlander" series. "Beyond the Highland Mist" is the first in the series and I am so glad I picked this book up!

Sixteenth Century - Sidheach (Sid-hawk) James Lyon Douglas is known as Hawk, legendary lover to countless women. His sensuality just oozes off the pages. He is well-aware of the hold his beauty and his sexuality holds over the women who are lucky/unlucky enough to share his bed. As he so arrogantly brags to his best friend and captain of the guard, Grimm, "There is not a woman I can not have." A wish upon a star by his friend soon finds the legendary lover eating those very words.

Twentieth Century - Adrienne de Simone has had enough with beautiful men. Finding her world turned upside down by a failed and almost fatal relationship with a gorgeous playboy, she swears off beautiful men forever. Finding herself the pawn in a game between the mortals and the fae, Adrienne is thrust back in time to the sixteenth century where she is to be wed to the man who is the very epitome of everything she has sworn off in men.

Things getting very interesting when the first time Hawk sees his wife, who he was determined before to ignore, she's checking out the blacksmith, Adam Black. Once so sure of himself, Hawk finds himself treading the very unfamiliar waters of jealousy. Determined to not lose his bride to a blacksmith, Hawk sets out to seduce her only to find his every plan thwarted by the not so easily won Adrienne.

I laughed until I cried at these two! Hawk's jealousy towards Adam was hilarious...and touching. The secondary characters were just as enjoyable, too! From Lady Lydia, the Hawk's mother to Tavis and his "I'll say" to the Rom and their superstitions - all come together to form a wonderful story of wit, mayhem, and magic!

By the way, I found myself just as enchanted by Adam Black the blacksmith as the heroine and after a quick search on Amazon.com I found that he has his own book! *squeal Of course it comes much later in the series and so I'll have to wait patiently until I've finished the others before I can find out what happened to my favorite "prankster". *wink

A well written tale of love and revenge, goods and mortals, with a bit of time travel thrown in. If the juicy descriptions of the warriors' bodies don't affect you, surely the beautiful descriptions of Scotland will.

Moning offers the promise of a terrific plotline in her debut romance: a troubled young woman, Adrienne is transported from the 20th century to 16th-century Scotland by an evil jester to take revenge on a Scottish laird. The author has the right characters: there's the heroine who doesn't trust beautiful men and a handsome hero cursed to love a woman who will not return his love. Add gypsies and Scottish mysticism, against the backdrop of the stark beauty of the Highlands, and you've got an intriguing story. The lovers endure quite a bit of torment in order to find happiness, a downer that even Moning's doses of humor can't always leaven. Unfortunately, Moning doesn't fully deliver: she too often relies on transparent plot devices, and while her falconry imagery is both poignant and sensual, it will remind readers of Elizabeth Lowell's Untamed

16th century "Hawk", beautiful and irresistible to women. 20th century Adrienne hurt to the soul by a beautiful man, is sent back to Hawks time to lure him. Since she has no use for beautiful men she seems the most likely to break his heart, which is just what the plan is. But, dispite her vow not to fall for him it seems fate has other ideas. A wonderful fantasy.

This book has received many favorable reviews but this isnt going to be one of them. The story seemed to plod on and on and if I heard the heroine exclaim I HATE BEAUTIFUL MEN! once more whilst drooling over two pretty men I was certain I was going lose the last thread of sanity thats holding me together.

Im not going to waste your time (and mine) by rehashing the plot bit by painful bit. Basically, its a time-travel in which the modern day heroine gets flung back in time straight into the lap of a man in need of a daughter to marry off to The Hawk. Hawk is a beautiful man, with big beautiful man parts that hes been using to give pleasure to most of the women in the area for years. Hes ticked off a jealous fey King and hes in service to his King (because of something his father did) and both Kings have something to do with the time flippery of the heroine. Got it? No? Im not sure I do either. The Hawk isnt supposed to love whatshername (Adrianne, was it?), which is why the fey chose her (as punishment) but, imagine this if you will, they fall madly, truly, deeply, forever after in love, despite it all.

Im being sarcastic because that's how I roll when I'm grumpy after listening to this male narrator go on and on for what seemed like two months. He does a super sexy Hawk voice but his falsetto female voice just didnt work for me and when he read the sex scenes I was more than a bit uncomfortable in a bad way. These two characters come across as a bit bratty for way too much of the story. She tries to make him jealous to push him away because, dont forget(like the author would ever let you), SHE HATES BEAUTIFUL MEN! HATES THEM!! because shes been scorned by one. She doth protest way too much and spends numerous pages flirting with a gorgeous-o (I dare not say beautiful) blacksmith and it was downright mean to Hawk and didnt make me sympathize with her at all. The Hawk, of course, falls for it every damn time and stomps off in a huff determined to make her love him anyway, even when he thinks shes slept with the other dude. Why, man, why?! There are lots of nice girls out there who would give you those babies you want and wouldn't hurt you so!

I was so confused. I got the impression that she was a modern girl, who in her past, was treated exceptionally bad by an arrogant, beautiful bastard whom she had a relationship with and from the bits revealed it seemed as if she lived with the man. However, it is later revealed that she is a virgin. Twenty, living with a guy and a virgin still? Her ex seemed like a real worldly man and I just didnt get this but maybe I just have too dirty of a mind? Yeah, thats probably it.

Despite my many issues with this book I did love The Hawk and felt that he deserved better than Adrianne and her silly head games. This book made me so crazy and nattered on for eternity but because it made me feel something, even if that something was too often anger, I have to give it three stars for making me care. Ill probably read the next one too because thats how I am.

I am so not a reader of time-travel romances... Ok, well I used to not be, until I kind of fell into this series after reading KMM's Fever series. I didn't have particularly high hopes for this series as it seemed kind of cheesy from the reviews, but after reading Beyond the Highland Mist, I can honestly say I am hooked, and I immediately requested the other 6 books. This book has everything, action, adventure, double-crossing, scheming, heartbreak, not-too-cheesy love scenes... Give them a shot! You'll be hooked too!

I wouldn't go so far as to call it a "great read". You want a great time-travel series featuring a fierce Scot, try Diana Gabaldon. However, this book was a much quicker read and everything was tied up neatly at the end. You don't have to read this "series" in order or wait expectantly for the next to come out. Definitely fun!

3.5 Stars-This book was a tad bit better than okay. I felt that the idea of the story was good, but the relationship lacked the soulmate factor. Some of the scenes were a bit choppy and left me wanting more of Scotland's Highlands in the story. I needed a better description of what I was reading. Considering this is KMM's first published book, I'll let a some things slide, especially since my last shelfkeeper was Bloodfever, I know her writing has developed tremendously. I am reading this series mainly because there are glimpses of some characters in the Fever series, which I think just ROCKS!

Entertaining read although not particularly edifying. Adrienne is taken back in time from the 1990's to the early 1500's where she can somehow easily speak with their Irish Brogue, everyone talks like they do today, everyone knows what coffee is (and they even have some), and she isn't immediately declared a witch by superstitious peasants.

The pacing of the story was a bit off, not much carried the action except a constant circling of hero and heroine in a battle of wills and sex. The inexplicable choice of the author to have Hawk's brother bear the same name as the heroine just for a silly line early in the story. The Cuban maid back in the 1990's whose presence does nothing for the story except explain why the cat isn't dead but not how Adrienne can afford a maid or a house with security or how she isn't in jail.. Some sexy scenes although heavy on the flowery prose and light in realism. Overall an easy light read but not an author whom I will rush back to read.

Very enjoyable love story but here is the problem...one too many "obstacles" to the happy ending. I understand that part of building the tension in a romance novel is the obstacles which must be overcome but I think there should be a max to this device. Two or three obstacles is reasonable but "Beyond the Highland Mist" throws obstacle after obstacle at the couple; it was frustrating.

The good points of this book just barely out weight the "obstacle" problem. A wonderful her and heroine; this is a couple you want to see have a happy ending. Their love is strong and passionate. I love romances where the hero woos the reluctant heroine.

This is the second book I have read by Moning. I read the second book first (Grim's story). This is the only third historic romance I have read though so I am new to this genre. For people who are expecting a straight historic romance, just wanted to let you know that there are paranormal elements as well.

The book was okay. I liked Adrienne and Hawk enough. Surprisingly I didn't get frustrated with their inability to communicate. I could sympathize with both characters and their actions. There were a bit of midsummer's night dream in there (with all the fae intervention) to keep things interesting. I thought the plot was interesting as well. It also had a great cast of supporting characters.

This book was harder to read than Grim's story. There was an inconsistency in the language. I expected a lot of that since Adrienne was supposed to be from the present, but the language was inconsistent with all the characters. And what's up with putting "the" in front of Hawk like he was "The Hulk" or something?

I do have problems with some of the scenes where Hawk decided to be more proactive in keeping Adrienne from Adam. I have no problem with kinkiness but keeping a blindfold on someone for two hours straight while travelling was very abusive to me. It wasn't sexy because he did it out of anger. I know the book claimed it was done out of love but really he was into doing anything he can to make himself feel powerful. In that way, I don't see him any different than Adrienne's first abusive boyfriend. Hawk just never hit her. After reading that, I lost a lot of respect for Hawk and Adrienne.

Overall it was a decent read. I think Grim's story was so much better. It has piqued my interest enough for me to continue the series plus branch out to read more historic novels.

This is the first book that I have read by the author. It was a great story that had a little bit of everything in it - romance, action, time travel and magic. The characters - Hawk and Adrienne - are both strong characters with dominant personalities. It was a little frustrating reading about their interactions with one another - when you knew what they were thinking, but they couldn't verbalize to each other and were too stubborn to do so. The antagonist (Adam) was great as were the secondary characters - you really had a chance to get to know them too. I look forward to reading more of the writer's work - both with this Highlander series and the Fever series.

An Alluring Laird
He was known throughout the kingdom as Hawk, legendary predator of the battlefield and the boudoir. No woman could refuse his touch, but no woman ever stirred his heart--until a vengeful fairy tumbled Adrienne de Simone out of the modernday Seattle and into medieval Scotland. Captivfe in a century not her own, entirely too bold, too outspoken, she was an irresistible challenge to the sixteenth-century rogue. Coerced into a marriage with Hawk, Adrienne vowed to keep him at arm's length--but his sweet seduction played havoc with her resolve.

A Prisoner In Time
She had a perfect "no" on her perfect lips for the notorious laird, but Hawk swore she would whisper his name with desire, begging for the passion he longed to ignite within her. Not even the barriers of time and space would keep him from winning her love. Despite her uncertainty about following the promptings of her own passionate heart, Adrienne's reservations were no match for Hawk's determination to keep her by his side...

1st in a series that I love. I am trying to complete my series. I've read them all but I stopped with the 7th book - didn't like the "Fever" books at all. Hope she writes a few more in this series - and yes I know the fever books are an extension of this series. I love her Highlanders and her Druids.

A little history of Scotland in the early 1500's, a little romance, a little fairy mythology, and a little time travel all rolled into one book! I enjoyed this easy read and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

Hawk, a Highland Laird, is principled, gorgeous, sensual and prone to mistrust. Rumors say he can have any beautiful woman he wants. Due to jealousy, his king has betrothed Hawk to Janet Comyn, a homely deranged woman. After Janet's father kills her a replacement is required. Adrienne, a 21st century woman is time-ported to his century where she is forced to take the part of Janet. Hawk sends his best friend to stand in as proxy at his wedding. Needless to say Hawk is captivated by the beauty and intellect of "Janet". Adrienne pays him no mind which drives him crazy. The couple are being toyed with by the Dark Fool of the Fae who has his own reasons for hating Hawk and as Adam he vies for Adrienne. I liked the main and secondary characters especially Grimm. I came to hate Adam as he cruelly manipulated the couple.

I couldn't get past page 16. Normally I give a book at least 90 pages, but I just couldn't do it. I can't do fairies and time travel. So not my cup of tea.

Adrienne de Simone is transported back in time 500 years by the fae when she swears never to love another beutiful man. Of course, she ends up married to the most gorgeous man alive in medievil Scotland.
He wants, she resists, & the fae are just plain naughty.

He was known throughout the kingdom as Hawk, legendary predator of the battlefield and the boudoir. No woman could refuse his touch, but no woman ever stirred his heart--until a vengeful fairy tumbled Adrienne de Simone out of modern-day Seattle and into medieval Scotland. Captive in a century not her own, entirely too bold, too outspoken, she was an irresistible challenge to the sixteenth-century rogue. Coerced into a marriage with Hawk, Adrienne vowed to keep him at arm's length--but his sweet seduction played havoc with her resolve.

A prisoner in time...

She had a perfect "no" on her perfect lips for the notorious laird, but Hawk swore she would whisper his name with desire, begging for the passion he longed to ignite within her. Not even the barriers of time and space would keep him from winning her love. Despite her uncertainty about following the promptings of her own passionate heart, Adrienne's reservations were no match for Hawk's determination to keep her by his side. . . .
