Another great Dave Robicheaux romp...only this time Dave, Alafair, Clete and an assorted group spend most of the book in Montana's tribal lands. As usual Dave's got to battle his enemies, his friends and himself. You'll love it.

One of my favortie mystery authors. If you love the deep south, most of his books will never fail to please those who also love mysteries. He knows how to give you just the right amount of description of the area as well as plenty of action.

I've read everything James Lee Burke has ever written, and now I'm reading books written by his real-life daughter, Alafair (who is a character in this, as in so many of his books - you can almost watch her grow up if you read his books in chronological order). He sets most of his stories in South Louisiana, and no one gets it right like JLB. The descriptions of the Louisiana landscape, with its dreamy, slow-moving bayous and dreamy, slow-moving way of life, the New Orleans he loves, the dialogue that is right on, even the history and culture of the Acadian, or 'Cajun' people...he gets it all right, and you can tell he loves the place he lives and writes about. (Can you tell I'm a Louisiana lady?) :-)
Since the story is well-described, I won't attempt another description. But I will say that I believe anyone who enjoys a good mystery with in-depth characterizations and plenty of twists and turns, should truly enjoy the incomparable James Lee Burke.

One of the early Dave Robicheaux books. They are all great. I love them. James Lee Burke's writing is diffrent from anyone else I have read - he has a beautiful way with words.

Early Dave Robicheaux mystery set in New Orleans. And absolute MUST read for any fan of James Lee Burke's wonderful detective series'.
A very suspenseful crime thriller with a very wry writing style about a Louisiana detective pursuing the murders of his wife as he struggles to protect his daughter form the same culprits.
Always enjoy James Lee Burke's Robicheaux books
A truly Cajun main character, interesting minor characters, spins and turns of the plot make this book very interesting to read. The main character can be violent , yet he I tender with his adopted daughter. You really feel the warmth there. I want to read more books by this author

Another in this great series about Dave Robicheaux. Elmore Leonard would be proud of James Lee Burke's efforts.

This book has a small tear in rear cover and one in spine. Still very readable.
This is an "advance reader's copy." This book was a great read. Hard to put down. From the lush bayou country of Southern Louisiana to the rugged landscape of Montana where Robicheaux confronts Indians, oil company roughnecks, mafia honchos, and a woman he could grow to love.
