Blade Dancer is set in the Stardoc universe but is not part of that series. The story is about a half alien (Jorenian), half human ("Terran") woman named Jory who is a champion shockball player. When her mother dies suddenly, Jory's secret - that shes not fully human, is discovered and she's kicked off the planet. The only reason Jory was sticking around anyway is for her mother, so now she's free to go back to her mother's homeplanet and carry out her mom's last wish - by seeking out the small group of half-breed Jorenians like herself to tell them something important about themselves. After that, she is planning to find and kill her father. Seeking revenge requires skill so Jory decides to train in blade dancing at a school for assassins in Tana.
I started this book at 8pm last night and stay up till 1am to finish it. I don't know - it hit the spot! Its easy to read, and though sometimes gory with the fight scenes; rather satisfying. There was something a little predictable in it - a twist or two that I expected, a romance I expected, but I wanted to keep reading to make SURE it ended the way I expected, if that makes sense. I loved the world-building: especially the training and how they moved from one level to the next. I also liked all the different kinds of aliens and their abilities and customs. The book was fast-paced - Jorry goes from one situation to another and has to keep herself and her friends safe and you want them all to come out ok, but there is death and grizzly things and cruelty to keep you a little worried.

Un-put-downable action, more potentially lethal twists than an electric eel, a spunky yet vulnerable seven-foot heroine with retractable claws...plenty of fun. I don't read much science fiction, but I got ahold of a copy of Blade Dancer and just loved it! Don't miss this one!

Viehl is a good author--but I don't really care for her writing style. I read her star doctor series (for a while anyway) and I decided to try another of her books to see if I liked the plot line any better. I'm sorry to say I don't--but I know others tend to enjoy her work.

Super adictive. One of those books that when you reach the end, you want more. I loved the main character. She was very strong, but had just enough weaknes to make her easy to identify with. The kind of woman I would like to be! Highly reccommended to all sci-fi lovers!

I love this book! It has unique characters and the lead character is a strong female which is what I love to read about. The plot is good, but the real special things are the orininal and totally unique characters and how they interact. I hope there is another in this series!

I', sorry I haven't read Viehl's novels before now. The heroines are believable and a welcome change from the passive females in too many sci-fi offerings. I'll keep these books for re-reading.

Jori Rask is a professional shockball player, which is basically saying that she is either a masochist or crazy in the head. She is also 7 feet tall and her mother is blue, but nevermind those little details. She's in big trouble with the Earth authorities, and if they catch her they will banish her from the planet, and besides, has promised her mother to find the other members of her family--nevermind also that she hasn't ever met them.
A novel in the STARDOC universe.
Absolutely tops--great reading.
