Tanya Huff rocks! A female PI, her former police partner/boyfriend, and a suave vampire go up against the forces of evil in the streets of modern Toronto. Snappy dialogue, a fast-paced plot, and likeable characters... especially Henry Fitzroy, the bastard son of Henry VIII turned romance novelist by way of sexy bloodsucker.

Book #1 of Victoria "Victory" Nelson Private Detective, and vampire Henry Fitzroy, bastard son of King Henry VIII...solving crime in Toronto.

It was pretty good, as an intro to the characters, but not fantastic. I really thought that the 4th and 5th books in this series (Blood Pact and Blood Debt) were the BEST...unusual for a series to get so much BETTER as it went along!

Enjoyable, some of the concepts are a bit weak, but it's a good read - the writing is sound, the storytelling enjoyable.

Not at all what I was hoping for...it wasn't so much an awful read but it wasn't great either. The writing just seemed bland to me and it had a hard time keeping my interest. I am crossing my fingers now that book 2 will be better!

To be fair I will say tho that my expectations were rather high as I had been watching the show and loving it. I naturally assumed the books would be better but somehow the excitement just wasn't there for me.
