Native politics abound in this volume, and we see more of Kate Shugak's character as her relationship with Jack and his son Johnny becomes more fleshed out with details of Jack's divorce from his vindictive ex-wife. Stabenow shows a deep respect for the differing views of Native American Alaskans and gives us a fascinating look into Alaskan politics as Kate's grandmother coerces her into attending the Alaskan Federation of Natives convention to investigate the death of one of its board members.

I am an avid reader of Dana Stabenow's work. Her protagonist, Kate Shugak, is well defined and very readable.

Love this series. This one is set at the Alaska Federation of Natives Convention, in Anchorage, which makes it unusual for her.

Political intrigue at the Alaska Federation of Natives convention leads to high tensions and murder. Kate is drawn into tribal politics and learns how much she cares about the land and her people. "Emotionally satisfying and spiritually fulfilling"--Mystery Book Reviews.

I vote two thumbs up!
