This isn't structured as a thriller but as a family saga, or rather as a saga of two families, and I found it so boring that at 8 chapters in I returned the book. A big disappointment since I usually like Grisham.

Based in Biloxi, MS this book tells the story of immigrants to the area in the late 50's. Their families struggle to make a life in the new country. Specifically, this tells the story of two families and their children who grew up together, played baseball together and then their individual lives took significantly different paths. One follows his father into the family business - a member of the Dixie Mafia, and the other follows his father into the law. Faced with the vice of the area - prostitution, gambling, drugs, illegal alcohol, gangs, Jesse Rudy takes on the mob when he is elected to office.

A good story with interesting characters. Lots of legal interaction in the story. A story of two people, friends as kids but followed different paths.
